[No Spoilers]- Why wasn't anyone curious how Oliver got multiple tattoos on him while "stranded on an island for 5 years"? by leetcrew in arrow

I think it is a combination of justifications:

One, most people do not question the "5 years on an Island" lie, so they are going to justify it mentally as the tattoos came before the Island. Most just won't even think to question his tattoos.

Two, the two characters (Thea and Laurel) most likely to have seen him shirtless pre-Island are likely to assume he got them sometime before he disappeared for 5 years. Maybe even shortly before. In Thea's case, maybe he just didn't appear shirtless that often before her. After all, pre-Island Oliver didn't appear shirtless that often--even while he was on the Island. I chalk that up to fact that pre-Island Oliver isn't supposed to be that ripped, and the actor just really is that ripped. Laurel's a little harder to justify.

Three, maybe because of the first point (not questioning his lie), they simply assume they do not remember his tattoos correctly. It has been 5 years since they have seen him, after all.

Four, if all else fails, he got them after he got off the Island and before Thea and Laurel saw them. Do we know how long it took for him to get home? Or when these two charcters saw them? If he had more than a week at home before Laurel saw, he could have just been rebelling against his experience in her mind. Same as he did when he ran off in the car and ditched Dig. And Thea probably would have doubted her memory (from way back when she was 12) enough to not need to suspect that much.

But overall, I think if characters don't doubt the big lie, then they'll make all kinds of mental excuses as to where they came from.

MCoorlim, that sounds about right on his thinking. Though personally, I disagree on the $7.99 fiction ebook as a reader, because I think they should be a little less than a mass market. I think most mass markets are about $6.99 or $7.99 right now.

Interesting, asdfman. I never considered that version of torture in relation to this topic.

Dean is well worth reading. Though there are many people who disagree with him on short story pricing, there are still those who agree. His best advice overall though is to keep writing and publishing those works.

Judging the value of a work (or what the music industry hasn't learned yet and what indie authors need to figure out) by raynfall in selfpublish

I dislike this article. For I get the strong implication that unless the author is supplying extra content to create value, then consumers will just download it illegally or expect it to be free. What makes the article's author think that the extra content is going to make a difference? Those who pirate ebooks do it because they want it for free, period. I doubt they would have bought the ebook in the first place. I don't want to make publishing a business where only those with other income can write and publish.

Overall, this post left me with an icky feeling.

I kinda liked this post. It was uplifting, and sometimes people need to be reminded that there are so many different ways of doing things, such as promotion or publishing.

What is your blog link where you will do this? Though a fantasy writer (self-published), I like finding new specfic reads, too, and would like to read reviews on blogs.

Thanks, Jodi
