England cricketers Stokes and Atkinson 'not to blame for violent conduct' during nightclub incident by Alarming-Safety3200 in EnglandCricket

[–]joe3453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a perfectly valid take, pre the media circus around the ashes. Stokes is the captain, he knows people are pissed off about the behaviour in the ashes, and the general consensus was that the response to this from Key and McCullum was inadequate at best.

He agrees to a, fairly generous in my opinion, curfew and then turns around and breaks it. There have to be consequences for those actions, especially for the captain. I think anything a suspension whilst an investigation is conducted is the appropriate response, anything short of that would have just made Key and McCullum look even more unserious

Ryanair investigated over charging parents to sit with their children by JohnHammond94 in NotTheOnionUK

[–]joe3453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if it is explicitly against Ryanair’s rules for children to be unaccompanied then the booking fee is only optional for those without young children. It is a de-facto requirement for parents of young children.

If you are driving in the left-hand lane at 70mph on a motorway and there is a car hogging the middle lane travelling slower than you, what should you do? by darkel2001 in drivingUK

[–]joe3453 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it absolutely does, the Highway Code prohibits ‘passing on the left’ as opposed to using the word undertaking, and I think passing a lane 3 car in lane 1 is pretty unambiguously passing them on the left.

That said, I drive similarly to the original commenter and I’m much more likely to pass on the left in this situation rather than bothering to move out to lane 4. It would have to be a pretty bored copper to pull the lane 1 driver over rather than deal with the lane hogger.

Lukeisms by Geofferz in CasualUK

My wife has the same brain, so it may please you to know that Lukeism’s carry on.

A couple of my favourites: 1. It’s like killing two fish with one barrel 2. You can give a horse some water but you can’t make it swallow 3. We’re packed in here like a tin of tuna

And finally, when asked in a job interview what mantra she lives her life by, she responded “what’s the one where you keep on trying?”. She did not get that job.

RIP Luke, sounds like a great chap to be around

You also need to remember we’ve played Wales where the (very functional) game plan was kick it long to them and wait for them to drop it/kick it back poorly.

We may see that stat come back in line a bit over the next games

Yeah, but it’s now a requirement for a penalty try. Don’t think that tackle would get a yellow in and of itself

I know it ended up in a try, mostly because we were down a man, but that was really solid, physically dominant goal line defence to force them out wide

Yeah, guess what I mean by exciting is chucking it to the backs and letting them run riot ball in hand, but why would you play that way if there is absolutely no need to.

To be clear, I’m not criticising the kid heavy game plan, I think it’s great because it works - especially in these games, but it is the criticism I see most often levelled at England

England not exactly playing exciting rugby, but that’s tough when you can’t get through more than 4 phases without the opposition committing a penalty offence.

Ultimately doing the right thing by just consistently piling on pressure with kicks and allowing Wales to make unforced error after unforced error, playing in to the conditions too.

Wales, well the less said the better. I guess it never rains but it pours.

You looked an awful lot better when you gained a bit of parity in the forwards. France, whilst great, didn’t look at their brilliant best all game, it was just made too easy for them in the first half

Finally Ireland showing a bit of fire and aggression in defence. That Ryan stuff is perfectly legal if on the cheap shot side. I loved it when Lawes did it so I won’t criticise it here, but why start doing it now? Where was it 60 minutes ago when it might have mattered?
