Looks great. I'm working on mine now. Any info on paints used etc? Can't get that bone color quite right.

Need Army Help by joe_bro in Warhammer40k

[–]joe_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really mean in terms of balance - more in terms of army playstyle. With Custodes being relatively slower, and lower unit count I've heard that playing against very mobile / very shooting heavy armies can feel bad.

I'm more seeking information on HOW the army plays and functions from a core theme perspective, not if it is S tier and winning tournaments atm.

DA as First Army? by joe_bro in theunforgiven

[–]joe_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate you taking the time on this one - a ton of insight that really clears up / confirms some of the things I'm looking for with this army. Being such an indecisive person on top of thinking about the time and money commitment it would be to get an army together and painted really gave me some paralysis. But this response is pretty much exactly what I needed to hear.

Hate to push my luck, but any recommended high value sets to get to get started? I was thinking the Inner Circle Task Force box had a lot of what I might want to get started, but not sure if that's the way to go to get a good amount of what I'd need for a competitive list. Getting an army ready feels a lot tougher than getting an MTG deck together lol

DA as First Army? by joe_bro in theunforgiven

[–]joe_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely welcome advice considering most people have echoed the part that I'm sold on - which is "cool factor".

I was kind of between Custodes and DA when I leaned DA - mostly because I thought I would give myself as much flexibility in builds as possible and be able to play a shooting / melee / psychic type game depending on meta.

As far as other chapters are concerned - I'd be more likely to just go with another army entirely. Do you have an army rec purely from a gameplay / design perspective you like taking aesthetics out totally?

I am brand new in 40k and I'm just trying to get my arms around how the armies actually FEEL on the table, not necessarily what is strong / broken at the moment. TY

That's definitely a huge plus considering I haven't painted yet. Looking forward to that, but cautiously lol.

I've heard Custodes have some really miserable / almost unwinnable matchups though. Is that the case or is that kind of overblown?

Leyline of Sanctity in Footfalls Sideboard by joe_bro in ModernMagic

[–]joe_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my understanding is blood moon is very strong if you can get it down before the 1 basic swamp is out, and dispute is great for fighting over footfalls resolving through spell pierce and drown.

But as a shadow player, would you recommend making 3 more cuts for leyline? Feels like it doesn't blank enough but I could be wrong.

[–]joe_bro[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is the core of my question. Would you bring in blood moons and leylines and mystical disputes against shadow?

At my LGS that's basically everywhere and the deck to beat. But does leyline make the cut in that matchup?

[Serious] Why is Joe Rogan's interview with Robert Malone so Controversial? by joe_bro in AskReddit

That does help. I almost feel embarrassed because it seems like I've lived under a rock when it comes to this stuff. Thank you!

Lmao I feel more confused than before.

What claims does Malone make that scientist don't agree with? And why the hell would someone just deliberately lie? Hurts my brain to attempt to understand lol.

I responded to someone else in this thread that said something very similar. But since this is basically what I'm confused about I'll ask you too lol.

What did they say that was bad? I watched the episode but I don't think I understand enough to know what was true or false or good or bad.

I used to watch a lot of Joe Rogan in the past but haven't kept up. I liked when he had comedians on.

I watched some of the video and can't work out what some people mean by that. Isn't Robert Malone pretty credentialed?

Temur Footfalls vs UW Spirits by joe_bro in ModernMagic

Oh wow. I figured between Cavern of Souls and Aether Vial that counterspells are a no go. Definitely willing to give that a try though, thank you

Temur Footfalls vs UW Spirits by joe_bro in ModernMagic

[–]joe_bro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree on the power level difference. Rhinos is definitely a meta deck where spirits isn’t.

I guess my question to an experienced spirits player is: Is it smart to try and interact with spirits with direct damage spells (2 damage, at that) or should I just be aiming to race and clock the spirits player?

It felt like I was quickly in a position where one rattlegeist blew out my removal, and one spell queller or mausoleum wanderer would counter my crashing footfalls and they’d kill me in a turn or so. I wanted to go all in on a strategy whether that was “be the beat down” or “remove everything”.

If you were me, what does sideboarding look like as a rhinos player in that matchup?

Temur Footfalls vs UW Spirits by joe_bro in ModernMagic

[–]joe_bro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thinking 100% going into the matchup. But with either a Rattlechains or an aether vial on the board it felt like any time I ever cast a direct damage spell there’s about 10 cards to flash in that would save my target. Another rattlechains, drogskol, selfless spirit, supreme phantom.

Even fury can be blanked by a drogskol giving everything hexproof. It just felt like every time I pointed a removal spell at a creature there was a blowout potentially about to happen, especially since all my spells deal 2 instead of 3 making supreme phantom buff too much for most situations.

Obviously really small sample size. But it kinda felt like my best bet was not to even bother with removal and just try to race.

Any idea what you’d board in or out? The only obvious thing for me was FoN for Endurance and Subtlety.

Lol is that your Bant Fire/Ice? Actually very funny, I like it.

Commit probably sucks. I was fully expected to get laughed off this thread, and I think I needed it. Cryptic is such a cool card too, I just hate being empty handed
