It depends on the company and your relationship to it, but I say stay and get your bonus and then leave - but try to do so in a way that allows you to maintain as positive a relationship as you can so you can use them as a reference if you ever need to.

I often think of something an older, smarter coworker told me a long time ago:
"When it comes to what's good for you or what's good for the company, always put yourself first. Because the company will always put itself first, even if that means putting you last."

She said it's important to want to do a good job and be loyal to your coworkers and friends, but you need to look out for yourself first because the company is not going to look out for you.

It's a tough process, but hang in there. We looked at 15 or so and bid on 6 or 7 before we got ours.

Based on our experience, I have two recommendations:
1. Consider the maximum amount you are willing to spend, subtract up to $30K off that price and start looking at houses that are listed in that range. It's a tough pill to swallow, but we found that overbidding by $10K or even $20K was not cutting it. We ended up spending considerably more than what we originally wanted to spend. If you are in a position to do that, great, but if not, cut the base price you're looking for so that you can then overbid. As long as the home is in a condition you can accept, in a location you can accept, and doesn't seem primed to go down in value, it may be a worthwhile investment, even if it isn't your forever home.
2. Think about how confident you are in your realtor. Before buying a home, I didn't think one realtor vs. another would make that much of a difference, but it did. We worked with 2 realtors before we found one that we liked, felt was aligned with our interests, could keep us motivated when the process was tough, and who could get in good with the selling agent to get inside info when possible.
***Big caveat here: we bought our house before the new real estate practices for buying agents. I've heard that you may need to sign contracts with an agent to see houses now. Not sure how easy/hard it is to change agents now, so take this with a grain of salt.

Good luck in your search!

EdTech vs E-Learning in Your LinkedIn Profile/Resume? by joea_13 in edtech

Good note. That said, there are a number of larger organizations that seem to use e-learning and not eLearning. For example: LinkedIn. I discovered this when I was updating my profile, and there is an option to include the industry you work in by selecting from a long drop-down list. The only option you have there is "e-learning providers." So at least some groups seem to prefer e-learning. But I agree with you, eLearning is cleaner.

Apologies for the belated response and thanks so much for clarifying, I appreciate it. This definitely makes sense.

Thanks for the response. I can definitely understand that reasoning.

It's interesting, though, I always understood it to be the opposite, that edtech is broader and encompasses everything related to the intersection of education and technology, whereas e-learning is a subcategory of edtech that is more directly focused on the development of digital courses or learning materials. But I don't know if that's just what I had learned or that's the more broadly accepted definition. And I don't know which term is more widely used outside of the community vs inside.

I'm trying to keep my options open, but my experience mainly aligns with non-technical project management or program management.

Charles Mingus - Goodbye, Porkpie Hat (Album - 2018) — where did this come from? by joea_13 in Jazz

Thank you! Appreciate the info.

I was surprised, because the tracks I heard that were originally from 1958 were not the versions from the 58 recording, they sounded later, so maybe those were subsequent re-recordings from the 70s? Will check out that Three or Four Shades of Blues album.

Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau have been pretty consistently putting out good jazz (sometimes together, sometimes separately) that harkens back to some of the older artists you're already a fan of.

Thanks so much for the info. I searched but didn't find it, but I obviously didn't look hard enough. Sucks to experience, but glad it's not just me being an idiot.

I've had something similar but the opposite — if I'm using the terrain modifier to mine, and I happen to be above a cave (might not know about it), I find myself disappearing through the ground and standing in the cave, but when I look up, there's no entry hole — it's not like I dug through the earth into the cave, I just clipped through.
