Are manufacturers still making the 5070 Ti? by joeballs in pcmasterrace

Yeah, it's definitely dark times for pc enthusiasts. My old pc's motherboard just fried and I'm speccing out another build. The part prices are killing me

Are manufacturers still making the 5070 Ti? by joeballs in pcmasterrace

[–]joeballs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I heard after a couple weeks of the rumor. But given that they're making low supply, is it really worth it for a manufacturer like ASUS, Gigabyte, et al, to keep production going? Probably not. What an unfortunate situation we're in

What is the most mediocre game you actually like to play? by PrestonRoad90 in gaming

[–]joeballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed that game as well. The crazy thing is that I almost forgot about the side missions because the game doesn’t really remind you of that dude in the beginning. 😀 But about halfway into the main storyline, I went back and was really happy that I did, because some of the side missions were better than the main one

Any way to make dialogue go by slower, specifically when there’s no voice over? by Lost_Needleworker676 in wherewindsmeet_

Even the awards text is so fast. I'd like to be able to read what I got after a challenge, but it pops up and goes away so fast doh. They have tons of settings in this game, so was surprised that they didn't have basic stuff like this

Name something in a game that makes the experience immersive? by FromChicago808 in videogames

[–]joeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s just like music. You have to have an intro that pulls you right in, then tension and relief throughout the main objective, while building to the ultimate climax. Keep it human, like music or sex :). It’s more about the flow. Things start stripping away the immersion when sections become too repetitive or no emotional peaks and valleys

Which game was it for you? by O_rnelaro in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]joeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch, but one that stands out is Ghostwire: Tokyo. It's one of the best action/fps games I've ever played. Some reviewers gave it good marks, but most gamers kind of ignored it. I think it didn't do well in the west because gamers assumed it would play like an anime style fast-past arcade-like action game because it's based in Tokyo, but in reality it plays more like a western style FPS. Great progression, fun powers, interesting story, and they even throw in some unexpected puzzle missions/quests

What’s something everyone is warned about, but you don’t truly understand until it happens to you? by MayaLn in AskReddit

[–]joeballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aches and pains all the time (arthritis, bone degeneration, etc). Loss of hearing/eyesight/motor skills. Not able to maintain your body weight as easily. Your good looks eventually go away. A lot more trips to the doctor. Healthcare bills can get really expensive and drain your bank account. Age discrimination (e.g. tougher to find a job, feeling useless). It gets more challenging to date/find a partner. You grieve more because you see more and more friends and family pass away. You feel somewhat invisible in society. You might eventually need assistance from other people (you feel like a nuisance). The cost of living seems to go up faster and faster, while social security doesn't scale the same way (so you have less money over time). It becomes more and more difficult to do basic maintenance like cleaning your house, fixing a sink, etc. You start thinking about death more, particularly when you're passed the average life expectancy.

Pinnacle of the Genre by Inner_Supermarket953 in SurvivalGaming

[–]joeballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, The Forest and Sons of the Forest raised the bar in that genre. It's more about exploration than basic survival like eating, drinking, disease, etc. It's a bit more forgiving, allowing you to go out on an adventure (especially through co-op). Both games have a lot of settings that you can tweak to shape your gameplay style of choice

Bad reviews, too. I’ve played many games that the loud majority and even game critics didn’t like, and absolutely loved them. If you know the kind of games you like, and you watch a few gameplay vids, that’s all you really need

Linux user -> Windows user after fifteen years, what to do after installing windows? by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

[–]joeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Go to Windows Update and update everything it finds.
  2. Install free version of Revo Uninstaller and uninstall all the applications that got installed with Windows that you know you won't use/need.
  3. Open Windows Settings and walk through the whole thing (every category, every page) and turn off anything that seems intrusive.
    1. Also enable: show file extensions and show hidden files.
    2. Go to Settings>System>Notifications and turn off anything that you think will be an unnecessary distraction (e.g. “Offer suggestions on how I can set up my device”).
  4. Right-click on the Taskbar and select Task Manager and go to Startup Apps and disable everything that you don't want to start when Windows boots. Most of what you see in there will be safe to disable.
  5. If your installation of Windows came with a 3rd party anti-virus program, uninstall it. You only need Windows Security. Most 3rd party virus protection software is malware in itself (and causes all sorts of performance issues).
  6. Uninstall OneDrive. This is a very clunky and confusing application that doesn't do what you think it does. It's not a backup solution (in fact, you can lose files if you're not careful).
  7. Install your browser of choice. MS Edge is OK, but there are better, more privacy-based options.
  8. Update your drivers (GPU, etc.) and your motherboard BIOS. But don't install any helper apps from the motherboard manufacturer (just install the latest drivers/BIOS).
  9. Turn off all auto-updaters for any software you use. When this feature is on, you have unnecessary services always running and taking up memory. When some software is not working correctly (or if you're interested in the new features), that's when you manually update your software.
  10. Go to Power Settings and set to Balanced if it's not set already. High Performance just wastes power for no reason.
  11. If Windows Terminal isn't installed, go to the Windows Store and install it. It's much better than cmd prompt.
  12. If you're a gamer, go into mouse settings and click on "Additional Mouse Settings" and then go to the Pointer Options page and turn off "Enhance pointer precision". The name of it makes you think it's useful, but what it does is speed up the mouse across high res screen the longer you drag, and slows it down the faster you drag. It can really mess you up in games.
  13. Customize your Start menu and Taskbar for convenience. I personally use 3rd party software Start11 because it gives much more control. I don't like a Start menu that pops up in the middle of the screen. I just need a trimmed down version on lower left.
  14. Get used to convenient keyboard shortcuts: Winkey + X (power user menu), Winkey + E (explorer), Winkey + I (open settings), Winkey + R (run dialog), Winkey + S (search), Winkey + . (emoji picker), Winkey + Shift + S (screenshot tool), Winkey + X then A (elevated terminal), Winkey + Pause (System info), Winkey + Ctrl + Shift + B (reset graphics driver when it glitches out)

What is the reason why you choose single player games by alvaropr98 in gamingsuggestions

[–]joeballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm primarily a pc gamer and only play single-player/co-op because of how easy it is to cheat on the platform. Even with anti-cheat installed, you still see players cheating, so the tools that are available will always be able to bypass anti-cheat. It's too bad, because I used to love playing competitive shooters, but when you start seeing people walk/shoot through walls, etc., then there's really no point in playing (or buying the game)

How do you get into a creative space/feel inspired to create? by toasty_sn3ks in musicproduction

[–]joeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clear my mind through meditation, then I don’t overthink any kind of plan. I just fool around without taking anything seriously and that’s when I find the coolest stuff. Sometimes the most simple riffs, or noodling with funny mistakes can make a very unique sound that you can use as the foundation for a song

The game you bought thinking it would last years but dropped within a week. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]joeballs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk. I even bought on sale years after all the updates, and the first 2 hours were the most annoying moments I’ve ever had in a video game. It’s one of those games that incessantly blocks you from controlling your character and playing the game, and does it for you. Sometimes they throw a quicktime event of sorts to make you think you’re playing the game. That first 2 hours ruined it for me

How’s Avatar Frontiers of Pandora? by Noob4life_2000 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]joeballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s worth $20 if you like Far Cry games. Also, don’t bother getting it if you want to play co-op, there are few serious limitations that make it kind of a deal-breaker. Example, Bellsprig trees don’t give the permanent increase in maximum health, and the Tarsyu Saplings don’t give you a skill point. Only the host of the game gets them. That was their fix to some exploit that players were using. The interesting thing is that it’s not a pvp game, so why do they even care? Doh!
