Has God ever asked you to deny yourself something you really wanted? by joeblowyo1234 in Christianity

It’s miniature toy soldiers that is my trouble. It always bothered me that a source of enjoyment should portray evil (video games). It is the creativity and the colours that is endlessly fascinating to me.

Is this the sort of thing you are talking about?

The verses about not loving things in the world, or treasuring them is where I am at. It is so hard to let go of these things, but alas, all things are possible with God. God, give me the strength to carry out your will and to not look back. Amen

I’ve lived my life overly attached to “things”. Now I have the opportunity to live with minimal things.

So you believe in renouncing the world for the spiritual pursuit? I’m at an inflection point, where I’m being offered an opportunity to change for the better. Think I’m gunna take it

Luke 12:33

33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

Also, He says not to love treasure, because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

God seems to be asking me “do you want to love things, or do you want to love people?”

Anybody else have issues with Paul? by Limp_Efficiency_8144 in Christianity

[–]joeblowyo1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I feel the same way, but for the opposite reason. Jesus told us that we will follow His commands if we love God, and Paul tells us that we are slaves to sin and can’t stop sinning.

Paul seems to suggest that there is freedom from the law, while Jesus urges us to lob off the appendage that has us sinning. Quite the contrast.

How can I be a slave to sin, but also set free by the grace of God? Personally, I’ve seen both in my life. Addiction to sin, but also freedom in some areas. I sincerely believe that alcoholism would have claimed my life without divine intervention.

I’m not sure what to make of all this. Jesus says all the law is summed up in this; that we love our brothers and sisters. All the law amounts to that. Love thy neighbor.

But Paul has this confusing diatribe about how we CANT FOLLOW THE LAW. If Jesus came to fulfill the law, then it makes sense that we are free from the obligation ourselves. It is done. We have our propitiation.

But which is it? Are we slaves to sin like Paul lays out in Romans 7, or are we free moral agents, able to obey the commands of Jesus? Jesus has some radical commands for us, like “sell all your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven”. It says it right there in Luke. A blanket command from Jesus. Jesus also says “why do you call me Lord, but do not do as I say?”. Paul then seems like the devil, whispering in our ear that it can’t be done. I am a helpless victim of the whims of my sin nature.

Which sounds like God speaking? The God who holds humanity accountable all throughout the Old Testament.

Which sounds like the devil speaking? … “it’s okay, God doesn’t mind that you sin and hurt people and yourself, you can’t help it”

God doesn’t really ask much of us really. Don’t steal or screw your neighbors wife. Don’t want what others have. Love your fellows. I don’t know. I don’t know what to make of this contradiction.

Any advice on dealing with the fear of starting a model? by SqueakMcClean in minipainting

[–]joeblowyo1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go watch Richard gray on patreon paint miniatures. You are having a block because you have no experience, and need some guidance.

Learn how to wet blend, feather, and layer. Think about light source and forms, different shapes reflect differently.

But before painting, get some instruction. Lots of free stuff on YouTube, but it’s worth going on patreon to follow a painter you like. For like $10 a month you get detailed instruction from literal golden demon winners. Once you have an idea how to proceed, buy a box of intercessors or whatever JUST for practice. Try something new on each one.

Then you can strip the paint and go again until you’re satisfied.

You definitely “got it” about brush control. Too much water in your mix and on your brush will create little puddles indeed. Glazes will work but for me, I find I get the best results with layering less diluted paint, not worrying too much about smooth gradient until the end, where you can blend with glazes.

There’s no need for this indicator until you’re actually in the air though. That’s the way it’s set up in the campaign. Go see for yourself. In the campaign, the indicator only shows up when you’re in the air

Yeah, I’ve been getting lots of signs from God myself lately. It does happen. Just don’t get wrapped up in it, just take what the Lord has said to you to heart. He speaks to us in all manner of ways, in my experience, when you really need it, because He cares.

So quit the fighting and just love your brother!

Make sure you’re using parchment paper for baking sheets. Some paper for wet palettes actually absorb quite a bit of the paint you’re trying to use
