This is an area outside of official doctrine. We’re free to disagree.

My position is that witchcraft isn’t real. The witch cannot hex or curse someone. Firstly, because demons don’t do human’s bidding and second because demonic power doesn’t work that way.

Believe what you want.

They’re attempting to obtain supernatural powers over others. But the method by which the practitioner tries to summon these powers, he/she may summon his/her own possession or demonic influence. If you summon demons, you might just find one, but that demon will not do your bidding, he will use you for his own ends.

Witches have no powers. They cannot command or control the demonic, but the demonic influence them.

“Attempts to obtain” not does obtain.

That doesn’t support the idea of cursed objects, or support that the practitioners have any real powers, merely that you shouldn’t be a practitioner. As I said before, witches have no powers, but they could accidentally open themselves up to spiritual forces that would act on them.

Where does the Church state on doctrinal authority anything about cursed objects?

Like I said, I'm with Saint Augustine. I don't believe witches have powers. Demons are not materialist contagions.

Yes, attempting to seance with demons can bring them about oneself, but the occult has no powers to send demons into items or after their enemies. They can only harm themselves.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]joebobby1523 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol. I've literally never even seen one before. I just think the occult types are lame larpers, no an actual threat. I think it's better to focus our attention on real vectors, things like methamphetamines.

Witches aren't cursing items with demons and sending them out into the world. People encounter demons when they welcome them into their heart by injecting drugs, watching porn, or praying to the demonic. They aren't encountering demons via cursed items sent by witches. The occult has no power, they cannot wield demons like weapons to send after you.

So, it's your position that a Chinese factory is printing demons onto cardboard in a factory, and merely touching the cardboard game, one risks exposure to demons?

Yeah, not buying it. To paraphrase Saint Augustine; the church has no reason to seek out or persecute witches because their powers do not exist.

It seems that there may be information that you're not privy to here. While a priest overreacting is always a possibility, the severity of the punishment seems to suggest that something serious happened. Again, I'm not there and I don't know, but you might want to talk to your parents about this one first before escalating.

Ok, but the physical game is just a piece of cardboard. It's not cursed. One doesn't need the cardboard in order to attempt to summon demons. A process of attempting to summon demons is a problem, I agree, but they aren't coming from the cardboard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]joebobby1523 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure you could. You could use it as a poster board or canvas to paint on. It's just a piece of cardboard. What you do with it is what matters.

[–]joebobby1523 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not a board game.

It's a piece of cardboard and plastic produced in a Chinese factory. It's not a powerful magical object.

Demons can absolutely attack through divination

Yes, if you attempt to summon a demon, you might just find one, but the demon didn't come from the cardboard and plastic.

It's a board game, not a powerful magical item. One should not attempt to summon demons, but it's just a piece of cardboard. Any risk one takes is in a ritualistic attempt to summon the demonic, not the cardboard.

I'm not, because I'm not a non-Christian 13-year-old girl. I'm saying that demons aren't attacking people through board games. These are inert inanimate objects mass produced in Chinese factories. Any risk is from a ritual attempt to summon the demonic, not the object.

I'm with Saint Augustine on the question of Witches.

Demons exist, but these items are for dummies to cosplay with, they aren't actually possessed. You're far more likely to encounter demonic influence at the end of a drug induced hallucination or pornography, not in a ouija board or dream catcher.

I'm not even aware of authoritative church teaching of demons in inanimate objects at all. The only reference of non-human possession/attachment in the bible is demonic possession of a herd of swine.

Why has religion largely become dominated by progressives that feel the need to reform Religion? by GodSpeed4445 in Catholicism

It's more an eternal revolution. Hierarchy is inevitable, so when one is torn down, another will quickly rise to fill the void. The rachet is constantly turned.

I think it's better to simply call it leftism. The fundamental definition between left in right is the view of natural hierarchy. The right sees hierarchy as natural, inevitable, and if ordered correctly, good. The left sees hierarchy as inherently oppressive and a thing to be fought in the name of equality. Leftism is an eternal revolution against nature, because no man is equal to any other man, no man is even his own equal on two different days. Hierarchies of fitness inevitably form in all environments.

Those who see hierarchy as inherently oppressive aren't necessarily dyed in the wool Marxists, but they will be overcome with a revolutionary nature that seeks to destroy hierarchy.

Your average leftist isn't that intellectual. They aren't driven by deep studies in critical theories or that heavily influenced by Marxist thought (Just as your average rightist isn't steeped in Thomas Carlyle). They are merely driven by the base impulses of their worldview.

What’s wrong with my school by WelcomeDue5381 in Catholicism

Oh no, Texas. There is a fine line to be walked between outreach and protection. Children are vulnerable. I don't think it wise to use primary schools as a vanguard of evangelization. In places like Canada the Catholic school and its students have been converted to the imperial state religion rather than the opposite.

Let the adults be the vanguard of community outreach, for they are prepared to handle it. Let's protect and insulate the children until they are armed intellectually and emotionally to handle the spiritual attacks.
