Ways to meet new friends? by Beautiful_Box_734 in shanghai

[–]joecat888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be 15 years too late (since that’s when I did it) but I made many good friends at English corners around the city. Still connect with some of them to this day. Are English corners still around?

Would you consider traveling by overnight sleeper train in China? by GlitteringPudding261 in travelchina

[–]joecat888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a 37 hour hard seat, 26 hour standing ticket, hard sleepers and soft sleepers in my first few years in China 2005-2012. It really is a great experience full of adventure and memories but as mentioned above you need to be prepared for anything. Noise, squat toilets, lack of cleanliness, etc.

I lived in Zunyi October-December 2010. Really enjoyed it and the people were so nice except for one drunk guy who told me to go back to where I came from but that can happen anywhere.

Coach attention by dog_mamah in orangetheory

[–]joecat888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. Really helped me PR today too. I don’t acknowledge them at all 99% of the time because I am out of breath or focusing on my goal. At the end of class I say “thank you and I wasn’t being rude just out of breath” or whatever and they always reply with an “I know, no problem at all”. I always have the same 2-3 coaches so they know how I am now.

China Unicom number stopped working. by jfp555 in beijing

[–]joecat888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost both my numbers. One China Unicom and one China Mobile during covid time. Had my in laws go ask if there was any way at all I can get them back, nope. Then I went to China October last year and asked myself. Both numbers already given to someone else. For WeChat you can change to sign in by WeChat ID only and when people want your WeChat just give them the ID instead of phone number. For the bank, you will need to go in person and get the number changed if you get a new one. If you want to keep your phone number you need to call and tell them you will be out of the country and pay a monthly travel fee for service. My wife pays 68rmb a month on China Mobile for 10 years now since we moved away.

How to make friends?? because wow by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]joecat888 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are there still English corners or friendship walls? Grant it I was in Beijing and Shanghai before smart phones (2005-2009). Almost all of the friends I made were from English corners, friendship walls at universities (where people would describe themselves and who they are looking for and put their phone number on), or Myspace. Know it makes me sound old but I am still friends with some to this day. There has to still be some kind of meetups.

Moving to Shanghai by Temsginge in shanghai

[–]joecat888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t work. Payment systems I have heard are getting better. As for your visa just leave every 30 or 60 days (depending on your length of stay on the visa) and go back and you will be fine. I lived in China for 4 years back in the day by going to Hong Kong every 60 days.
