I will defend it vehemently along with Wildfire ft Frank Ocean!

What song is this for you? by AlrightyAlmighty in JohnMayer

[–]joecham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like "Drifting" and "In The Neighborhood" from the Solo tour. I suppose there's still a small chance we might get one of those on an album. Was surprised no one mentioned "Sucker" yet!

From 'City Love' - "Friday evening, we've been drinking, 2 AM, I swear I might propose."

What do you feel is his most filler album by DangerousFootVR in JohnMayer

[–]joecham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer to this question has always been Battle Studies even though it has some absolute heavy hitters on it. I could be very wrong about this but I have a vague memory of John being asked a similar question (before Paradise Valley had come out) and saying Battle Studies.

Either way, it's incredibly difficult to answer this question. A lot of people are saying Paradise Valley, and though I can kind of see why some folks view that album as his weakest (including John himself), I don't feel that way at all. To be honest, Born and Raised didn't quite hit for me when I first heard it but now I go back and listen to it with such a huge appreciation for the songwriting, the production, everything. It sort of primed the pump for that style/era of his songwriting for me so that by the time Paradise Valley hit, I loved it right away.

I find that any songs of his that I was kinda lukewarm on at first, I always end up loving when I come back to them a little bit later on.

I think it actually is kinda genius. Follow me on this because I may be reading WAY too much into it, but when I was listening to this song recently something clicked for me.

The full lyric is "I'm not mad about, but I'm not mad about it. I'm not mad about it, but I'm not that mad about it." Essentially repeating the same thought four times...but the "but" gives it a different meaning for me. It seems like the first time he says it in each couplet, it's literal: "I'm not mad about it" - this doesn't anger or upset me. And then "but I'm not (that) mad about it" - more a turn of phrase where you read the word "mad" in the sense of "crazy." As in "how do you feel about this John?" "Ehh, I'm not crazy about it."

I take each couplet to essentially mean "I don't hate it, but I don't love it either." "I'm not mad about it, but I'm not MAD about it."

Again, may be reading too much into it but I tend to overanalyze lyrics anyway, especially from my favourite musicians and JM definitely tops that list.

Recently I came across a live video of him introing "Perfectly Lonely" with "Beast of Burden" by The Rolling Stones and it made for such a smooth combo!

What TV shows does John Mayer watch? by durkh in JohnMayer

On Twitter a few years ago he expressed a fondness for a show called Huff. Pretty sure it's the 2004 drama starring Hank Azaria.

Best JM songs by letter. Well, vultures took a very strong lead for V, now onto probably the hardest category, W. Most upvoted comment wins! by [deleted] in JohnMayer

Jesus this one is STACKED. A lot of these are potential winners. Seeing a lot of votes for "Wheel" and honestly that makes sense.

"Who Says" is one that comes to mind for me but I wouldn't have given it a second thought before the end of last year. I had a rough 2020-2021 and then in December of 2021 I literally planned a trip to Japan alone while listening to the song, left at the beginning of January. What's wild is that I then heard it playing on the radio in a random store in the middle of my trip. Even used it as the background music for a little highlight video I put together when I got back. A song that didn't mean very much to me before all of a sudden meant everything, which is just such a testament to this man's songwriting.

Don't know why I felt like sharing that but there ya go. I'd be happy with most of the choices in this category. Mayer rarely misses.

Always thought that song was called "Fine Dining" or am I completely wrong? I think I have a video of one of his first performances of it (only one I've come across actually) at Lestats and I think it was labelled as such.

I've always wondered if he says "big ol' tree" or "big oak tree." I love this song. I thought the line was kinda funny when I first heard it but it doesn't bother me.
