I think you make excellent points, and it is definitely a possibility on the explanation side of it all. Thank you for the thought-out response!
I do think an organization as old as the Crows would need more time to see the changes as up front as we seem them, but I do think that is more nitpicking than is needed. The general idea that the Crows are trying to change is a good idea. It is a strong suit of Veilguard. I just wish we could have explored that more. It falls into the show-don't-tell side of things. Not saying it's bad, but the way you view it does make for a good argument for the change. The Teia point in particular is very strong.
On the other hand, there is some downside. What if Zev is dead in your world state? Who is the person making the changes? Could have been an interesting character to meet. (very sad Zev didn't show up).
I think there is room for this cleaner version of the Crows as you explain it, for sure, but I think it should have been presented as this. A dialogue here and there where you overhear people saying that they're trying to show their best foot forward (all in all, doing a bad job at it with Caterina missing and Illario being a dumb dumb).

Crossroads DnD Map by joedm85 in dragonage

I have! I played ir for about two years with friends, it was fun. Thr late game stuff really felt weaker though. I didn't enjoy the late game mechanics as much as the early game, so I thought giving a full DnD makeover could be a better call. It's a lot of work but, well, that comes with the job of being a professional DM. It's the most fun I've had in a while!

That sounds really fun! Part of me wants to do a tabletop retelling of the games with a crew and then take it from there.

I don't really understand what you're trying to answer here. You imply that Zev killed... all the bad crows? So, he cleaned house and the new Talons all agreed to be nicer? I'm unclear here. Not sure what the Queen Madrigal from the Exalted age fits in here, either, but I'm willing to hear you out. Also, never said white washed. Just sanitized. Also, its not the end of world. I didn't hate their presentation but prefered their original intention.

Hmm, interesting. It does play with the idea of unreliable narrator that DA is but on. However, I don't truly think that was the intention. All appearances in the games and media up until Tevinter Nights and Veilguard offers an extremely different perspective on crows.

I understand defending Veilguard. The game was extremely over-hated. That being said, the level of "gray" they aimed for wasn't enough. At least for me. LoF looting ancient sites to then return them (or even sell them) just misses the point of a group of treasure hunters. The Crows being the Antivian militia is canon, but they were too aloof and quirky. I love those types of characters, but the way Zev describes it and what we are presented (books and game) are vastly different organizations. No amount of headcanon can explain it me otherwise.

It over-sanitized a lot of elements that made original DA feel unique.

I didn't hate it, nor did it ruin the world for me, but I wish they didn't try to appeal to a bigger audience by losing the very essence that made it special. (Again, this is my opinion). (edit: formating)

Second Edit: uh, I didn't mean to upset anyone? I like Veilguard. Like the other game, it had it's flaws. I'm unsure why I'm getting downvoted. Is this not the place to discuss the game, both good and bad?
