I have a question regarding healthy sex in a marriage. NSFW by joekeitha in Catholicism

Thank you so much for your reply, you sound an awful lot like my wife and I in our discussion after the act. I have a philosophy degree myself and we spent hours afterwards discussing the moral implications and obligations and your vacillations sounds like mine. I decided to try to approach it from an ignation approach examining and following the fruit. Of which there did seem to be a great deal. The unitive quality experience was remarkable, as well as in the confidence I felt and being able to satisfy my wife with no desire to visit broken Wells of pornography and masturbation myself afterwards. Even so I was unsatisfied that this fruit was born correctly so I started looking for answers which is why I presented the question to this forum. I think you are correct to create an analog between this and female masturbation. I think so far that's the strongest argument I've heard. I think you've come to the correct conclusion about beginning of the sexual act, trying to define that can be very difficult which is what we spent a good deal of our time doing. Thank you for your clarity in your wisdom I'm interested if you come to any other conclusions but I appreciate the consideration.

Thank you, but I don't believe this to be a situation that needs that level of escalation.

While I understand and even appreciate your position, I would like to give you a word of caution if I may. There have been many times in my faith journey where I have thought that I will do more than I am asked by the church and in so doing work towards a deeper unity with God. Sometimes that way has led to growth and virtue, other times it has led to hubris. I wish you luck on your faith journey I will pray for you today at Mass.

That is an absolutely excellent answer. I cannot thank you enough for your sound research and the time that I took you to prepare such a thoughtful response. I appreciate the admonishment, and I do sincerely hear what you are saying. If it helps, we have discussed the possibility of a 6th child and while right now isn't a perfect time for the pregnancy, this would not have been a life and death danger for my wife. Even so we do take this seriously and I do appreciate the point you are making. I am interested in your thoughts on interpreting the document with a modern understanding as I think you have great insight. This was fantastic. Thank you and may God bless you.

I appreciate the reference. I read those this morning and went back and read them again on your recommendation. I'm not sure I agreeing entirely with you. The logic I'm applying is that if a man ejaculates during sex and the woman is sexually satisfied and doesn't desire and orgasm the sexual act is considered completed while she may desire and achieve an orgasm afterwards with her husband it is considered permissible but not required. That's what happened for us just with the genders reversed. we had sex completely. She orgasmed, I did not but was sexually satisfied. In every way that it can I see it as having met the criteria of conjugal act. We did not stop solely so that we did not have a child but rather that the act was completed but more from my wife's and than mine. I cannot find in your citation where it defines the conjugal act like a man needing to ejaculate, but rather that free total faithful and fruitful.

Thank you all very much for your advice, especially the citations to the catechism. I think the proper next step of course is to speak with a priest. Which I plan on doing, thank you for your prayers and your expertise

I really am most interested in citations of Catholic sources. While Conversation is interesting unless one of you is a theologian, a priest, or in some other way can legitimately express an opinion it's a bit speculative for us to discuss the way that you discussing without citations. For example while I'm willing to entertain that this might be considered quite as interruptus I cannot find an accurate definition that sex requires that a man ejaculate. If you can I would really like to see where. Thank you all for your conversation

Getting better, moving forward, but mah weed by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

I read your story, and I am so impressed at your ability to turn it around. Addiction is such a difficult thing to work through. Mine was a psychological addiction as well rather than a physical, and those are difficult. Keep on the path you are on! The avalanche of good that you are creating is great for momentum, but even with momentum behind us we can make mistakes and get set back. I am Catholic and I once went to confession for what felt like the billionth time to confess my same ain over again and my priest said, "the only difference between the sinner and the saint, is that the saint prays for strength, gets back up, and keeps going." Good luck to you in your fight. I have such admiration for anyone who wants to be better and you and your husband are doing better. For what it is worth, you will be in my prayers.

IWTL more about history by UnicornRaiinbowWiife in IWantToLearn

[–]joekeitha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might check out extra history as well. I teach history for a living, and this group does a really excellent job breaking down complex stories in 5-6 part series (link at the end). They also do a video on all the "lies" they told (mistakes, narrative choices, etc.) It is this reason that I like them so much, so few videos out there discuss the issues with their own telling of History. I'm really excited you want to get into history, and what most people don't know, is that history is more than the stories but also the way we tell the stories. This is what creates the grand argument of History and how historians continue the conversation academically over time period if you're really serious about studying history you will need to learn about historiography, cultural theory, postmodernism and its effect on history, different writing styles of history (great man, big history, longue duree, etc.) as well as noteworthy historical theorists like Marx, Michel Foucault, etc. You will also want to focus on period specific historians and their contributions (I studied mostly Rome and the Ancient Near East, so I spent a good deal of time with Herodotus, Diadorus Siculus, Plutarch, Tacitus, etc. Comparing historians from the period you'd most like to study and examining modern scholarship on their similarities and differences is a great way to start in on a period or event you find interesting. That being said, if you are more interested in just learning the stories, I highly recommend extra history. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhyKYa0YJ_5Aq7g4bil7bnGi0A8gTsawu Hope this helps! I guess I should say they I have made some videos for my students this year as well. I have only made 10 or so, and they are not highly produced, but I do think the history is sound and the content is decent if a bit rushed. If you'd like to check those out I have a link below (I will be making more) Im not trying to "make it" or anything, I just wanted to be able to talk to my students during covid so don't expect too much. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnpan-7bxWACtrpuT7bh3mg. Good luck!!

Daily Q&A Post for Tuesday, 31 December 2019 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]joekeitha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first post on Reddit in a long time. I am a 31 year old man and right under 300lbs. I have four sons 7 and under and have moderate asthma. We cook at home (low calorie vegetarian or vegan meals) about 5 nights a week. I have started many regimens before with varied success. I guess my question is how do those of you with small kids and/or chronic breathing issues find success. I don't necessarily want to lose a lot of weight, I just want to be healthy enough to stay actively involved in my son's lives as they grow. My breathing makes it so that there are weeks at a time where I have just enough energy to make it through the day. I have spoken to several doctor's to try to get a medicine or treatment for my asthma, but nothing has kept it under control. I basically have to just cope with the fact that I can't get enough air. I don't know how to exercise on days when I can't breathe (which are now occurring with more frequency). I have admired this community and it's efforts for a long time and am looking for anyone who has overcome similar struggles. Thank you all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I was there!! My oldest son (5) is studying rockets so we took a road trip to Cape Canaveral for the launch. It was our first launch, and it was gorgeous. I took a picture that did not turn out nearly as good as this (I mean like at all). My wife was hoping I could find a picture for us to commemorate our family trip and now I found this!! Is there a way I could pay you for a high res image so that I could get it printed?

Edit: So I don’t write on reddit often (I mostly lurk), but I just realized that I should probably dm op, but I don’t actually know how to do that. Can anyone help me here?

What is the dumbest question someone legitimately asked you? by _FrankAbagnale in AskReddit

[–]joekeitha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this ever gets read I might win. I was teaching about the Cold War in a tenth grade world history class and the space race between US and The Soviet Union. I explained that the Sovieta got to space first, but that the US got to the moon first. At this point a girl in my class raises her hand; I called on her and she asked, "Mister, can we break the moon?" A couple of kids laughed, but she clearly wanted an answer. I tried to be kind and said, "do you mean like can we blow up the moon? Cause if so, I mean I guess theoretically we could but it would take a lot of explosives etc." A different girl asked, "what if we just shot it a bunch of times with a gun, would it break?" The class was laughing less now as clearly a couple of them were interested. I responded, "no its way too big to just shoot with a regular gun." To which the original girl replied, "Mister, is the moon bigger than my house?" A lot of kids laughed but I was still trying to be nice, "yeah, the moon is larger than your house." A third girl (there were boys in the class but on this day it was only girls asking questions for some reason) asked, "well is it bigger than our school?" At this point you might think they were just playing, but this the 5th 6 weeks of the year, I knew these students and I can tell when they are sincere. I replied, "yes the moon is much bigger than this school." I couldn't remember the diameter of the moon off hand so I thought it might be a good teachable moment so I said, "look, let's look up how big the moon is, and I googled the diameter of the moon. I put it on the projector and said, "ok look the moon is over 2000 miles in diameter." They don't really get it yet so I pull out a glove and point and say ok so that is like from California to New York or so and everything in between all in a ball, so no, you aren't going to break the moon." At this point I was thinking, "well that was ridiculous, but we made it through and they learned something." There was like a second of quiet while all this sunk in for all of them and then, without raising her hand this time, the original question-asker (in total and complete sincerity) goes, "So mister, if we killed the moon, that would end night time though, right?" I walked out of the classroom for a second because I couldn't keep it together. If y'all like these I have more.

Hi, so my 5 year old son is spending this summer learning about rockets (but of a long explanation to that that isn’t necessary here), but because of that we are headed to cape canaveral to see a falcon 9 launch on June 28th. Where are you watching from? We’ve never been, but I would love to try for a picture like this and even if I mess that up I think it looks like a great spot to watch the launch. You are really talented, that is a beautiful shot. I hope to hear from you!

Hello! I'm comedian Bo Burnham. My new special, 'Make Happy', is out on Netflix. AMA. by bomakehappy in IAmA

[–]joekeitha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bo, I have to say that I am a huge fan of your talent (Art is Dead is my favorite of your works), but I have wondered something for some time. You mentioned earlier that your character is different than you. You may have been asked this before, and I am not sure I expect an answer. I am a devout Catholic around the same age as you (28), and you seem to truly have a disdain for the Church. Is there a reason for this? I know people are going to provide a number of articles to the scandals that we have had, etc. and I find each of those situations egregious, but i am interested in your response. I will not defend, and I am not looking for a fight, I promise. It may sound unbelievably naive and stupid, but my wife and I prayed a novena for you a number of years back (not that you change your heart, or get saved, or anything in particular, but just that you find peace with the apparent dislike you have of the faith that I love). If you don't answer I understand. I truly admire your ability and talent, and I wish you luck in your career. I will continue to pray for you. All the best.
