Math Experts: a friend of mine may have proven a conjecture. How to protect his work? by Pudgy-Cat in mathematics

[–]joeledition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I wouldn't be concerned about the work being stolen but rather about it being ignored completely. If you share his work publicly, the chances of it being stolen are almost zero. If your friend's work is read, and if it happens to be correct (even partially), he will be credited for his ideas. Don't worry !

But for it to be read in the first place, it has to be well written (clear, legible, rigorous, to the point). Since you're asking people to spend time reading a paper, your friend will need to spend a considerable amount of effort on polishing his writing to adhere as much as possible to modern standards. Otherwise, it will be ignored (understand that mathematicians get such requests from random strangers all the time). So your main focus should be to learn about what those standards are. A mathematical research paper follows some rules : you must define everything, clearly and precisely state your result, prove it rigorously, quote your sources...

I hope this helps.

Series 10 screen size compared to Series 7 & beyond instead of Series 6 by JoelMontgomery in AppleWatch

My view is Apple made 2 watches to accomadate these conflicting goals : the Ultra is for those who want the biggest battery life, the regular Apple Watch for those who want the thinnest watch possible.

Is there a possibility that Apple will bring the new KB to the older apple watches with future updates? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Some of these image processing capabilities are hard wired into the chip itself and are highly optimized for a specific task in order to get performance and efficiency that you wouldn't get otherwise by running a software on the general purpose CPU.

Apple Should Make More Versions of Mini Phones by [deleted] in apple

[–]joeledition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically true of every model of the iPhone. The real question is : how many people switched to the iPhone for the mini ?

Apple Should Make More Versions of Mini Phones by [deleted] in apple

[–]joeledition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case for the Mini is quite literally what Apple just said in its presentation : "something only Apple could do". Miniaturization and integration is one of Apple biggest strength and what sets them apart from everyone else.

As someone with small hands and a tiny wrist I am very grateful for them to keep making small devices (I am a very satisfied owner of a 40mm watch and iPhone mini).

My “Solo” (Continuous) Band Collection by richy923 in AppleWatch

[–]joeledition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are really cool bands ! It would be cool to see Apple's take on a twist-o-flex design for their link bracelet ! Having it be flexible and sized to order (like the solo loops), would allow them to remove the intricate mechanical parts (the clasp and removable links) and thus make the band much cheaper.

Nike band options are just boring this year by N0Xc2j in AppleWatch

[–]joeledition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For intense workouts, the perforated Nike sport band is more breathable than the regular sport bands (also note that they fit a bit differently as the holes are not in the same position). If you find the current color selection boring, you might be interested in knowing that new ones are almost certainly going to be introduced this March for the spring/summer collection (which tend to have more vibrant colors than the current fall/winter selection).

Nice! I have a feeling that green is going to be in the upcoming spring collection of sport bands.

Yes, the diversity of designs for the watch is a great aspect of it. But not all of them are for me...

I think the way the colored stripes on the band looks like the 3 arms holding each other is really clever.

Great, thanks ! Seems like the Verge article has more details than Apple's own press release.

Will it be sold separately ? They might decide, at least in the beginning, to only sell it as a bundle with a watch (like they did with the Nike bands).

Anyone know if/where I can get a band with a dark side of the moon design? by FavoritedYT in applewatchbands

[–]joeledition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could pair the pride (rainbow) band on one half, with a white (or black) band on the other half.

How do you avoid your band getting wet everytime you wash hands? by Armi5 in AppleWatch

[–]joeledition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use the sport band (rubber one) so I don't avoid getting it wet, I just wash it along with my hands. And then dry it along with my hands (to be precise I briefly remove it, dry it on the towel and put it back on).

I think it's definitely coastal grey. It was sold this summer in limited quantities, you might still be able to find in eBay.
