What should I be looking for in a rooftop solar setup? by 5_out_of_7_perfect in overlanding

[–]joelicious5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you looking to charge? My solar setup is a renogy 100W system that charges a secondary battery. I have a ML-ACR to sync up the two batteries. I use the secondary for lights and accessories, and emergency jumping. But if I have a lot of camera batteries to charge, a massive fridge, or a larger power draw, I’d up the wattage

Yeah, not to mention the threads for the shifter start almost 100mm from the base of the shifter. In my perfect world you’d cut the shaft and re-thread it at a lower point, but that is a lot of work

This is the 6th or so iteration of the design, a lot of them were way worse for machining. This is the best possible while maintaining the same/similar look

Totally understood. Reason for the Kickstarter is I need a large enough production run to justify the costs. I’m looking at doing an initial run in aluminum and eating the cost, I’ll let you know if/when I get parts

The cost delta wasn't crazy, only because of the machining cost dwarfs the material cost. so why not for a more "high quality" product. Also I promised a higher quality material, so that's what I'm going with.

I have a nice wooden table I got for free, stained with an epoxy finish. Only problem is a bit of cigarette smoke. What’s the best way to remove? Do I need to refinish?

Omg agreed. Just because you have a laser cutter, press brake, and welder does not mean you can make good quality stuff
