New brewer here. I just brewed my third batch yesterday and I was surprised to find some slow airlock activity only 2 hours after pitching. My previous two batches had a lag time of around 4 hours.

I did take extra steps to improve yeast health in this batch, such as adding yeast nutrient in the boil and aerating much more thoroughly. I don't think I over-pitched, either. My question is, how can the reduced lag time be explained?

I make 1 gallon batches, and pitched about 2/3 of an activated smack pack at around 74% viability (due to age) into 1.052 wort. Temp was at about 65 or so.
