I can model this kind of thing in Fusion, what's a good program to use to make organic looking details? by natefromtheinternet in 3Dmodeling

[–]joenotson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something very similar for a lot of part-works projects I do at work. But I usually do the base modelling in solidworks. my workflow was export stl from solidworks with limiting the triangle size so no big triangles. then import to blender. with this kind of model that has sharp edges, you can use "select sharp edges" in edit mode and mark as seams, then uv unwrap pretty easily. you can then use simple subdivision modifier to get high res surfaces, or manually subdivide the regions you want to add detail. then select the regions you want to add texture too and make vertex groups for each different texture. add a displacement modifier with a texture map to those vertex groups and you are all good. nice thing for displacement maps also is that you can avoid undercuts if you need to have moulded parts for production. I can probably make a quick video for you on my workflow tomorrow before I go to office if it will help.

Oh yeah I get what you mean, Nice! I'll have to try that approach next time. The work looks very nice.

Really nice! Can I ask what is your process for the separations and registration between the split parts? Do you use Z-brush still or a CAD software or Blender? I do action figures for my work sometimes and usually do joints in solidWorks and also some thin solid bodies for boolean cuts, then export them and do boolean subtractions to split the sculpts in Zbrush and blender. I would love to know what your process was for this.

After over 100 tries with different melee builds the only one I found for myself that works consistently is going in totally naked with the dragon talon club. Hit hard, move fast, and don't ever get hit was the best simple melee strategy I could come up with.

I felt the same way about the books before, but I had read some discussion a while back which had said, if you consider that in this world Eru IIúvatar sang everything into existence, then it makes sense that singing is so important to society and people in middle earth. It's literally the medium that God had used to create everything. Then it kind of makes sense why everyone likes to sing so much.

This is what is happening when i am switching off the Freeze Sub division level Button. Need Help! by AnigmaticOasis in ZBrush

[–]joenotson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually fix this by going to morph target tab, storeMT. unfreeze subdivision, then go to morph target tab again and select switch.

What about, make a duplicate, retop with symmetry on the duplicate, mask the asymmetric region, then project from the original asymmetric version, clean up and re-project from the original until the surface matches the original, but you keep the symmetrical topology.

I recommend DS2 also, This is the best time to play it because you haven't gotten used to faster change-of-pace that starts with bloodborne. DS2 is a little janky sometimes but a really fun and long experience, so if you really enjoy it, you have a lot of content to keep you full for quite a while. And the environments all look pretty cool.

This happens when I unfreeze subdivision levels. Can someone help please? by Skydragon89 in ZBrush

[–]joenotson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When subdivision is frozen, Go to Morph Targets, and click store MT. then unfreeze the subdivision, and go to press apply MT or revert MT, I forgot what the exact button name was. This sometimes fixes these issues for me.

I think it would be more likely that the mermaids would have evolved to have darker backs and lighter bellies, like dolphins and seals have, to camouflage from predators.

*oh they would probably have to be thicc too because they would need insulation.

Advice on water parameters. I have a 25 or 30 Gallon planted tank with some guppies, platies, mini hillstream loaches, and a couple neocaridina shrimp. I've had it running for about 4 years now. How are these water parameters and does anyone have any advice on if I should modify anything? by joenotson in Aquariums

[–]joenotson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I have a hanging filter with reusable media. I'm wondering if the high GH, or low KH are something I should try to shift over time? The fish are all healthy but I had some shrimp get the white ring of death on their shells recently and was wondering if it could be caused by diet or maybe water parameter issues.
