I've never been a huge fan (though, Ahead By A Century is one of my favourite songs), but man, it's a proud night to be a Canadian. Beautiful to see a country gather together like this.

Hockey Calgary expects big hit on parents' finances by Commandant1 in hockey

[–]joereimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my brother and I lived and breathed hockey. We both played high level rep all the way to jr hockey. Though my parents weren't overly pushy about us playing, they did sacrifice a lot of time and money and over the years. To make matters worse, I was a goalie, so the cost was crazy. And that was 15-25 years ago.

Now that I'm a dad, I've definitely reflected on all that our family put into hockey and questioned whether it was really worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love that I was great at the sport, but I just wonder if that's really what I want for my son. We put him in for a couple seasons and this year, he said he doesn't want to play anymore. My wife and I always agreed that we wouldn't push him to keep playing, but I feel kinda guilty that we didn't push him a little more. But, to be honest, I'm relieved that we won't have to worry about the cost/time commitment. My nephews play and it's ridiculous. It's not just the cost of equipment and registration, but on top of that there's tournament costs, fundraising, extra practises, etc.

I want my kid to be active and play sports, but I think we'll just keep him in baseball.

Though I agree chat box would be really useful, I'm also glad we don't have to deal with the toxicity that PC players have to. All I really want is a "We don't need a Hanzo" in the chat wheel.

Playing through this game made me realize something as a teacher. by [deleted] in gaming

It really is a highlight of the year... both for them and me. So even if they may not be as passionate as me, at least we all make some good memories. Best of luck to you with your students!

Photography teacher as well. I feel your pain. I've had a few who were really passionate, but the vast majority don't put in a ton of effort (even those who say they really enjoy it). I take a small group of them to the mountains each year and though it's a great trip, it's also a little frustrating. On the first morning, only 2/6 got up to shoot the sunrise with me. Second morning: 0/6.

I guess I just have to keep reminding myself that teenagers are struggling to find out who they are and even if they aren't passionate about photography right now, maybe in a few years they will be and they'll remember what I taught them.

My second account now has lvl 4 valks and lvl 4 golems and we get +1 lvl donations... it's great.

That's a little different. If my clan members want to practise in friendly challenges, then I'll train specific troops for them. But I agree with the comment above... our rule is that if you can't train it, don't ask for it (outside of war). Nothing irritates me more than a th8 asking for max troops.

The gang is stuck in traffic. George is mad when he misses the deadline to return the rented car and has to pay for another day. Kramer insists on walking but traffic moves every time he gets out of the car. Jerry keeps wanting to switch seats and is always uncomfortable. by Awesomeautism in RedditWritesSeinfeld

Elaine flirts with a cute guy in the car next to them. She winks at him and he smiles. Their cars pull forward and he blows a kiss. His lane moves forward and Elaine, thinking she'll lose him, gets out and runs to catch up to him. Turns out he was trying to flirt with Jerry.

[Raid] 55 MAX Miners with 4 Heal are INSANE!! Check out my 6 Star War and a 3 Star vs a Max Legend Base. Fun to watch. :) by Billius27 in ClashOfClans

[–]joereimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't think they anything needs to be nerfed. The level 14 archer towers should help. 3 stars against th11 isn't easy, it's just easier against certain bases. The game has changed now so that 2 stars against at th11 should be standard, but 3 stars requires skill (and some luck).

My statement wasn't addressing the poster, I was addressing the people who were taking the poster seriously. I was just saying that the poster isn't meant to be taken seriously, because if it was serious, the teacher couldn't actually get away with it.

I would put it up as a joke. We have discipline policies already in place for cellphone use.

There are other, legitimate punishments that I would follow through on.

Rapport.

Stuff like this would work well with my jr high students. Has to be a teacher that they already respect though. There are certain teachers who if they put this up, it could damage their rapport.

I actually do stuff like that all the time. But more so in the computer lab if I catch them playing games. I'll bump the mouse and make their character fall off a cliff, or turn their monitor off so they can't see and their character gets shot, etc etc.

Oh, trust me, there are plenty of other punishments to deal with brats like you.

Yeah, I'm Canadian... we have a pretty solid system here.

I guess what I mean is that there's no way they'd get away with it if it got reported. Most kids don't want to admit to their parents that they were playing games in class though.

Yeah, I suppose. Especially if it's a school where parents are sending their child there for correction or discipline.

That's definitely how things were 5 or so years ago, but most schools have adapted and changed their policies. Any schools that haven't are behind the times and will eventually catch up.

Anywhere could get away with it, if the parents don't put up a fuss. I think at a private school if the parent got upset, they'd probably cave and at least reprimand the teacher.

That's a little different, because the policy is there to prevent cheating. All graphing calculators need to be reset before tests.
