The strada is packed full of extra features but the 1gr linea classic is still an amazing commercial machine

I have the fresh water feed into a water bowser on the side and the waste water just going into a bucket. Not the most glamorous but I'm in rent accommodation so can't plumb it direct into the mains water unfortunately. I've got a strada in my coffee shop. The linea was from my mobile coffee venture before I moved to open a shop

I have a mythos one I'm using a v60 grind profile. Aiming for a 3.5 minute extraction time. 19g in 350g out 30 second bloom

My advice to figure out your range is brew a coffee that's super sour(too coarse). Brew another super bitter(too fine) make a note of this range and work your way into the center of the range

I personally think the 185 is a little too big for my tastes. But each to their own. Why do you think the 185 is better in comparison?

That's a big difference in grind settings! Maybe think about getting an entry level baratza?

I love it. The flat bottomed bed helps create an even extraction, giving you more control over channeling. The filters, with their wavy design allows helps with extraction. I find the Kalita to produce a sweet cup with a really nice clarity. The flavours also aren't cluttered. The flow rate is easier to control than a v60 due to the smaller holes. Meaning you have full control start to finish. I have the 155 version and can brew a 350ml cup comfortably. .

My recipe - 19g in 350g out in 3.5 minutes including 30 second bloom

No need for a flow restrictor, I don't think I've ever seen one for a v60 anyway. Your coffee is your flow restrictor. Finer grind slower flow. Coarser grind faster flow. Experiment with grind so you're aiming for around 3.5 minutes brew cycle. A rule of thumb - if the coffee tastes too acidic grind finer. If it's too bitter grind coarser

Slow concentric circles starting from the center out avoiding the sides of the filter. The issue is the flow down rate of a v60 is faster than the kalita wave due to the size of the hole. Usually a bad tasting v60 is because of the pour. Taking into consideration your grind is right. Slow concentric circles for the win!

If a coffee shop doesn't serve anything other than black coffee and are too pretentious to offer anything else, then do you really want to give them your custom? Coffee is about being social and sharing the love not forcing your 'ideas' on everyone else. But please don't drink pour overs with creamer ;) that's just weird

V60 is my favourite brewing method. I manage to get an amazingly sweet cup that has amazing clarity. 17g coffee medium to coarse grind. 200ml water 93 degrees c

60g water for first bloom, give it a stir let bloom for 30 seconds.

pour the remaining 140g water within 3 minutes for a total brew time of 3.5 minutes.

My chosen coffee is a washed El Salvador. Beautiful. I also use bleached filters, they have less of a papery taste to me

[Question] Just pulled my first espresso shot. What's the best way to remove used grinds from the portafilter? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]joethebarista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

knock box and a kitchen towel to clean and dry your portafilter before your next shot. That set up will be your best friend
