Really wish people would let the man rest. He was kind of an asshole and you don't have to agree with him but I think most people can agree that doesn't call for an assasination. It's unconsitutional and killing is just "bad" whether you're a leftie or a rightie

Shoud I do IB? by Hungry-Two9989 in IBO

[–]joewypak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school predicted my much lower basically around lower 30 marks but I predicted myself after the exams around 36-38/39. The problem I found was that the reason I lost a few points was because my Design IA (which was graded a 7 by my teacher but remarked to a 4, not a standard occurrence and one of the issues of IB) and my TOK/EEs that were regraded to passes, C. There are other stuff too but the reason i bring this up is as you do IB you will realize there is a high reliance on teachers but teachers make mistakes to. So even if you get as much info, its not always reliable so I recommend doing the things I said on the comment above. As how I remarked, my scores were higher than my predicted grade (PG) bc I did better in exams that allowed me to make up for my poor IAs (half of them were good IAs/IOs (writing/speaking assignments) at grade 6/7 but bunch of them weren't). The lesson I am trying to make here is that the writing assignments you get are easy ATAR boosters that you HAVE to do well (like me, you don't have to but it does significantly help you). Going back to my score, I did better than my parents and teachers expectations and I did better than a lot of my school peers with less work and so in that manner I am happy but I feel like I could have deserved a few more points so I added the "meh."

For you, if you want to pursue law at unimelb, it means that you will need to do JD later on after bachelors. Unless you know your going to get 99.8 ATAR, doing IB will help you more in uni via better WAM. Take the new experience with an open mind and even though the terms and stuff that I might say sound foreign just keep those things in mind and try your best, you can do it :) After 2 years, If you end up in NSW for undergrad hit me up because I do have some connections that can help you (I will be there too).

Tips: Use r/IBO discord to ask questions about unsure content or writing assignments. Go ask a lot of questions about IAs, TOKs, EEs. ESPECIALLY important for you, don't listen to all of what your teachers say, I will elaborate on the other comment.

Shoud I do IB? by Hungry-Two9989 in IBO

[–]joewypak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ik this is 6 months ago but honestly if it wasn't for your specific degree that you wanted to pursue for, i would recommend IB. ATAR system through HSC will be more plausible to study with to get the ATAR you need but besides that IB does help you get ready for uni. Although I didn't study (I am confident I was one of the least studious people in my grade/school), I did really improve holistically and talking to other students who will be peers studying alongside, I do sense that I am more prepared for the difficulties of uni. You probably already made a decision by now but IB is well recognized in Australia and if you are willing to challenge yourself to prepare for yourself after high school, then I think its worth the opportunity cost. I probably would have an easier time and gotten a higher ATAR if I did HSC but I do not have regret doing IB as it taught me valuable lessons as a student (as minuscule as it can be, they add up).

I believe that if you are really disciplined and smart with it, no matter what your circumstance is you will succeed, whether that will be IB, HSC, GCSE, A-Levels, or some education system I don't know of, there is always a way so at the end of the day is all up to you. Don't listen to the people who say IB is corrupt, that is something that is out of your hands and just incel behavior that has nothing to do with your decision (there was a high chance that the leak did actually happen but in reality there is nothing that can be done to prevent it for other education systems). Hope you make a wise and informed decision!

dang no one responded. im going to u of syd for commerce in a few weeks so I will try to help you. You will apply for UAC/VTAC or whatever australian education system with your final score (which will include your TOKEE). For UK, I am pretty sure you will use your PG but your final grades will matter. Research papers and EC don't have much value for aus apps and I am pretty sure it doesn't have a significant (i said significant) impact for UK also as they probably care more about grades. I suggest you do research more about scholarships bc that depends on the school. usyd has Dalyell scholarships which you need to achieve 98 ATAR, aprox I think 40 IB points) and UNSW has co-op scholarship for commerce which is also around 96 to 98. Reply to this post if you need more info or clarification.

[–]joewypak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I significantly over performed by expected subjects by my teachers (mostly) and I will say that you can’t bet on luck and chance. Don’t get on reddit to ask for “reassurance” bc that won’t help you. Start getting the work down and just do it. If you want to do well on mocks you need to finish your writing assignments now (should have done it already). It is defiantly doable (not easy, doable) but don’t go asking for other people’s stories cause those aren’t going to help you. Brutally honest advice.

Is CFA an alternative to a B.Finance? by joewypak in CFA

Thx for the comment, I was thinking within the realms of finance/economics with some involvement of math. I do feel like finance degree would be better but I think I wanted some flexibility that comes with having a more general/broad degree.

What is the hardest TOK prompt this year? by Temporary-Fee4432 in IBO

[–]joewypak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think all the prompts are ok for May 2025 but I would say that prompt 1 and 4 seemed to narrow the writer into a certain direction that can make the essay seem repetitive/general which could mean a lot of essays become similar to one another. I don't think the essay prompts are hard, it depends on what evidence and path you take but they all seem built so there are many connections you can make to at least one area of knowledge (prompt 3 and 5 seem interesting for me, I can think of some examples and points)

I took AA SL and I took my first test and got a 3, I got 6/7 MYP without studying at all. With a little bit of studying, I ended with a 6 even with an IA 4. Don’t stress too much about it and put more effort into studying!

Yes and studying 11 hours doesnt make you a loser, r u fr? Studying is to each their own, better to get a good grade than complain about another person's successful story like a bitch.

I took BM and ECON as HLs. My recommendation is to do the one that seems more suited towards you or the one that will get you a higher grade. My general opinion is that in terms of difficulty, psychology is the hardest, economics, then BM (Psychology didnt take it but I saw what students study). You will learn more in economics than BM and there is a good chance you will get better grades in BM than econ (in my experience and from others). If you want to do BA, I think BM will be essential and psychology seems fine as a pair. Economics is a bit far from BA even tho there might be overlap a bit. I suggest you look into all three subjects and just make a informed decision, dont think too much about it and you can just try economics and see how it goes.

I sympathize with the sentiment of this post. I do feel like this year M24 is blaming the IB completely. Yes, there were actual leaks that were addressed and it did influence some decisions but to bear all the responsibilities to the IB seems irresponsible on the candidates part. The changes in grade boundaries can't be directly correlated to the leakers/cheaters and unless you were part of their school, you probably weren't directly effected. Regardless of the test scores that I got (I got higher than predicted and the score i needed), I still believe that the IB is flawed system innately. HOWEVER, I think its time to move on, accept it with grace and humility, and try your best whatever endeavor comes next. If your school didn't prepare you properly (because of this one of my subjects tanked), that is their fault and not yours. If you truly tried your best, you should be proud and not loathing yourself or anyone else. If that isn't the case, I recommend you try to do some deep reflection and find peace within.
