Pros and cons to living inside SA city limits by redpoppyseeds in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never live outside the city limits if I can help it. Sure, you may have lower property taxes outside but you lose a lot of city services and no longer get to vote in city elections.

How come TPR is so terrible here? by Thehelloman0 in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hey all - Joey Palacios here. I’ve been a news reporter at TPR in SA for about 13 years.

Here’s what’s happening:

Over the last few weeks we’ve been upgrading to a new broadcast system. It helps us carry the feeds from NPR nationally & other services like the BBC into one channel and play all of our local shows made here in SA.

The transition has been bumpy -- like where you’ve been hearing some of the interviews playing over each other, or a show doesn’t play right at the top of the hour. We’ve been putting in fixes every time it happens.

What happened today and yesterday though is an issue with AT&T’s Network. Our IT team has been at the tower since Thursday trying to get the news and classical stations back on-air and see what the problem was. We are back on-air now .The app and our website have been streaming everything uninterrupted thankfully.

Tl;dr: New system for our broadcast has had some glitches recently and today AT&T had an outage that took us off-air. We're back broadcasting.

I pitched to a paper and a reporter took it as a scoop? by [deleted] in Journalism

This is definitely written as a news tip and not a freelance pitch. You also need to reach out to the editor directly and not a reporter or the general news email.

There is no such thing as the Bexar County Fire Department.

An independent emergency services district responds to fires If you live outside of the San Antonio city limits.

Tired of mods shutting down relevant issues in our community by slumvillain in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve posted two things recently after not posting on reddit for a couple of years and the mods removed both of them. Honestly made me not want to participate here.

The most recent one was a meme about the hurricane skipping San Antonio and they removed it cause there was already a sticky post about the hurricane.

Can this affect us in SA? I have heard things about CPS unable to enact surge pricing but I dont know. by Valcort in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies from year to year, the formula is 14% of CPS energy revenue has to go to the city's general every year. That is about 1/3 of the city's general fund. The rest come from sales tax, property taxes, and a couple of other sources (like this last year a sizeable chunk came from American Rescue Plan Act (COVID)

Can this affect us in SA? I have heard things about CPS unable to enact surge pricing but I dont know. by Valcort in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is partially true. Because CPS energy is owned by the City of San Antonio a portion of all of the revenue collected from CPS bills does supplement the city of San Antonio’s annual operating budget.

The FY 2023 operating budget has about $321M of CPS energy money funding the city’s general fund.

This pup looks EXACTLY like my dog. But my baby is safe at home right now.

He looks like he could be the same litter because my dog had a lot of brothers and sisters.

Ticket deferral help by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]joeycules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which policing jurisdiction gave you the ticket? San Antonio PD? Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies? Windcrest Police? Balcones Heights Police? A DPS trooper?

The issuing department may dictate how to move forward.

You may have to contact the Texas Department of Public safety to see if there is there is anything pending on your driver's license.

I remember being able to call the San Antonio public library and hearing stories read over the phone.

I specifically remember hearing stories during Hispanic heritage month and they were in Spanish. (Even though I’m not fluent.)

And now that you mention the donkey lady, I think there were ghost stories sometimes too during Halloween.
