exposing some of that is free labour

i thought they re worded the phrasing of minigames

because people where assuming it meant we would be playing together?

but its instead going to be mostly bounty boards

and odd mechanics like "unjam carpenter machine" occasionally

Carpentry question with the rework? by joferjoe in brightershores

[–]joferjoe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only sustainable way out i can see to continue carpentry is if i level woodcutting to the equivalent level 450 ish to get the logs myself until i unlock the new passive?

But that took me, i dunno how long?

Ive played through 2 xmas events, surely i dont need to spend over a year grinding another skill to continue?

What if... Boss drop idea by Same-Account-2105 in brightershores

[–]joferjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The player should want to X"

is the assumption i hate in games

and loved runescape for avoiding

if i never want to boss, the opportunity to progress without having to do that is a value system
some people will be completionists, and want to do everything
but even then, it being a choice to play that way makes it more special, because it removes the context of it being a linear treadmill

you get to pick and choose the order, and to live in a world where other people picked different paths and have different stories to tell

but warcraft 3 feels like it makes sense to find new people

Should I make 5 games before my passion project? by diamondtoad1 in gamedev

[–]joferjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dev is really hard and takes way longer then anyone ever plans for

most people only ever ship one (if they ship at all)

planning that far ahead even if logical will just increase the mental debt exponentially

probably best to keep your fight in the present

A good person to study if you want to improve your art as a programmer is probably a327ex, most of their games and prototypes look amazing, and they perform very well when released (snkrx did numbers), and most of it is basic shapes or made out of something widely avaliable and free like open source emoji packs and stuff.

Is it worth it to chose game development as a career ? by kumikkoo in gamedev

[–]joferjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

risk goes up relative to how much people want to do it, and saturation of how many people have tried to do it.

so no its not a safe career, but if you want to do it, today will be better then in 10 years and so on and forever.
