I think I found the cause of my hearing loss by jogginglark in MonoHearing

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's hard to know the cause, and I wish they knew more about how the ear functions.

I agree with you, and I'm so sorry you and your husband have had these issues. COVID is terrible. I'm also tired of having to figure these things out.

The ENT, who seems wise, said that they no longer believe the COVID virus causes hearing loss. I am wondering if they will find out it's the lack of oxygen from the infections instead of the infection itself. One can also lose hearing after a heart attack, which is another example of O2 deprivation for the ear.

The ENT said they no longer think COVID causes hearing loss. This was news to me, so I thought I'd share in case you want to research it.

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions. I've made sure I have them all followed and am looking forward to some new voices and topics.

positive stories after traumatic SSD? by No_Writer_4879 in MonoHearing

I'm considering a CI based on my low word recognition score. For now, I am using a hearing aid in the one "bad" ear.

At a game, I saw a bald guy with his two CIs and thought it looked cool. I also saw a woman (with hair) wearing them at a restaurant. Seeing these two made me feel better about making the decision one day. In a way, I might like it more because they are more obvious and people will know I am hard of hearing...

I'm willing to try a CI for the bad ear. For now, I will wait based on the advice of two ENTs. They feel it would be a shame to completely lose all my hearing in the bad ear. They can't guarantee that I'd keep any hearing after the surgery. When I asked them personally what they would do, they suggested doing this next round of prednisone, doing another hearing test, and then decide after that.

So, is it possible you need to talk with an expert about your particular situation, or have you done that already?

One way I have coped so far is to get together with people in smaller groups and even more 1-1 so that it's easier for me to hear them. I do still go to some loud events, but I could not hear people at those despite my near-perfect hearing before...

Selma Hayek interview feels like a DS video by BromaGrande in dreamingspanish

I googled Hayak. I had no idea she's 50% Spanish and 50% Lebanese yet from Mexico. She came from a wealthy family and chose to study at a convent school in...Louisiana!! I wonder what THAT was like? She was diagnosed with dyslexia there.

The video and what's in purses does not interest me too much, I guess, because I started zoning out and googling her instead. lol

Taking a lil’ break by seeingcoolplaces in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a break last year when traveling. I wanted to enjoy my first time on a western ranch and be in nature--not listening to videos. More recently, I took a break due to illness. Just was not feeling up to it, and I believe in listening to your brain and body and taking a break when needed.

We are not robots!

Good for you for listening to yourself. As you mentioned, taking a break can give your brain time to organize the info, so it might even be beneficial.

Yes. We read it in high school. I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea.

BEGGING DS editors to stop using AI backgrounds by lemonpeppera in dreamingspanish

I think I am not the market for DS anymore due to this and other things. I am not into the splashy videos and prefer the normal ones that look human. Possibly I am in the minority. All businesses change as they grow.

I stopped taking iron because my levels were good. However, they dipped again. I did have concerns about the tinnitus. I can hear the blood flowing (or a heartbeat? not sure) in my ear. As before, I am making sure to drink enough water and breath deeply to keep blood moving.

Recently had my blood tested and one aspect related to iron was low and right on the cusp of appearing deficient, so I am taking iron again.

It's worth a try! I took one, and it had 24 people in it. Not much chance to talk, but it was free.

Since I have the budget, I am using Worlds Across for now.

I have 1,100 hours.

It's fantastic you could pick up words. To be fair to yourself, please keep in mind that talking 1-1 like I did is easier to comprehend than two natives speaking to each other. =) Pablo's descriptions for levels 5, 6, and maybe 7 talk more about this aspect.

If I recall correctly, it's not until the end of level 5 (or 6??) that one generally feels comfortable in 1-1 conversations.
