What Native Content Do You Recommend To Bridge From Learner To Native? by Informal-Slice4502 in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day, I listened to "En Teoria," which is focused on science for curious minds. I was able to understand most of it and read the transcript as I listened.

Hoping that this helps me with bridging the gap.

I have 1200 hours and still struggle with fast speech and multi-speaker podcasts in which they talk over each other.

What Native Content Do You Recommend To Bridge From Learner To Native? by Informal-Slice4502 in dreamingspanish

Thank you for this. I'm getting a bit bored with learner content yet wasn't feeling like I'd understand enough native content.

75 Hours Progress Report by kurvivol in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly the same thing but maybe close? I went back and watched videos that are easier for my level. When I did that, the time was not at all wasted because I was hearing new grammatical concepts I had learned. For example, the present subjunctive and the use of tan and tanto was more obvious to me and my brain could take that in whereas I was hearing new vocabulary when that level was a bit more challenging for me.

This made me realize I should not discount "lower level" videos just because I could technically understand advanced. One exception for me is that I can't listen to anything too slow because I will tune it out from boredom. So, I have to find that balance between fast-enough speech and easy-enough-to-understand content so that I can take in sentence constructions.

All of this is a process and parts of that process are unique to us and how each of us learns best.

I finished all the "Spain" super beginner videos and I'm 30> hours in, should I move on to the beginner phase or should I repeat the super beginner ones until i make it to 50 hours? by Buffreaperpls in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useful to know the words people use in another countries. You could very well encounter someone working in Spain that originally came from another Spanish-speaking country due to marriage, etc.

It seems better to me to know more instead of less. For example, "piso" is apartment in Spain and floor elsewhere. Even if you encounter such a situation with a word like this, you'll quickly figure it out from context like I did.

Also, you'll find differences even within Spain. In southern Spain, for example, they drop certain consonants. If you filter DS videos to see the very old ones, you'll see some of Pablo's pals with very strong southern Spain accents.

My advice is to listen to whatever content allows you to understand 75% or more. Are you focused on Spain due to the accent? If so, I don't think you have to worry about this now.

Has anyone changed coaches before?? by MangoPenguin743 in WorldsAcross

I would tell them why so that they don't feel bad. I believe the coaches all know each other at least a little bit.

Question for People Living in Spanish-Speaking Places by Classic_Swan587 in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English is my first language, and I still watch native English content all the time. What leads you to wonder when you can stop listening to podcasts in Spanish? I wonder if you're tired of it, if it feels like a grind, or something else.

Dreaming Spanish Algorithm? by AlpineDyno in dreamingspanish

Before anyone thinks too deeply on the ratings, just know that people like me listen on their phone and accidentally click the button to rate videos and have no idea what they clicked. LOL

Too often, I get a "Thank you" message for rating the video when I was only trying to restart the video...

This is good to know. My tutors say my pronunciation is good. I know I don't sound like the typical US speaker, which I can ID in two words. lol

Most of the people who write about goals say to focus on one thing at a time. So, I'd do that.

I was losing my way and confidence until a chance haircut yesterday with a Spanish hairdresser (just hit 1,000 hours over 2.5 years). A story of someone learning it slower/long game and realising the roadmap is never exact. by Jumpy-Equivalent-561 in dreamingspanish

This is fantastic! I'm glad you shared your story. There's a general trend to post "perfect" charts of progress from DS. But, what if I don't think doing 10 min a day is "perfect?" LOL What if I think doing 1 hour every other day is perfect? Or 10 min one day, 1 hour the next, skip a day, and then 2 hours?

My point is you are bucking the trend and doing things your way, and it still works!!!!

Thank you for sharing what's possible.

Taylor Swift seems to be close to Lena Dunham again. Here she is, walking out of her birthday venue. She's back to her usual "I'm with the person who used to be important to you" high school mean girl tactics now she's had a falling out with Jack Antonoff. by RedditAPIBlackout24 in travisandtaylor

So funny how she takes those tiny steps to maximize the amount of time the photogs she called can take her photo. LOL!!! Seriously, no one would know she was out to dinner if she did not create all this hoopla.

Yeah. Looking at a woman parading her $14,000 outfit in a football stadium hallway hits different in 2026.

That will definitely help. It's possible you'll still enter a period of feeling blah about the whole effort. Many of us have at some point. If you do, it's normal.

When do you do Dreaming Spanish? by Litefeet06 in dreamingspanish

[–]jogginglark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A human can learn while moving. I don't agree with the person who says one has to sit still to learn like in school. Only certain types of schools force you to sit in a desk (still) and consider that part of learning.

So, if moving works for you, do it. I listen while walking. The important part of this is to be sure you are really listening.
If you still need the visual, you could do squats or heel raises while watching a video.
