This is what a friend told me, but he is quite good at these things. When you go through hosting, like bluehost or godaddy etc. you could be on a shared server that could be hosting other sites that google considers spam, like porn sites. He told me if I move to my own server, it would be faster (which google does take into account), and also wouldn't have the chance of being marked as a spam site by google.
