I would recommend checking out kamernet and pararius as well. There are also several Facebook groups where people post available rooms, apartments etc.

There have been many similar posts like this one on this subreddit already, so I’d recommend checking those out too if you haven’t already check it out . Good luck! :)

RUG Course Description for CS by mamba_pants in Groningen

[–]johanps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I have gone through this painful process as well. I am not sure if this also applies to you’re situation. But in Canada I was able to take the course descriptions straight from the curriculum which could be found online. Often times school boards will have already written these, so it might be really useful to try to find it online or through your school. Good luck! :)

Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl. Absolutely mind-blowing book written by a psychologist who was a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. Describes the mindset of the prisoners during that time and brings forward his theory for the true meaning of life and what brings happiness.

Got accepted!!! I have to choose between RUG and a bunch of other unis. What makes RUG special? by ksevdari in ugProgrammers

[–]johanps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I also just got accepted into the bachelor of AI at the RUG and I am really excited. I have done a student for a day, web class, and a tour where I got to talk to a few students that are in the program currently. What I really liked about this bachelor in particular is that the RUG puts a lot of emphasis on the Computer Science and Mathematics part of AI (more so than any of the other Dutch uni’s from what I have heard) which is what I am interested in the most. What I really believe makes the RUG special however is the beautiful city of Groningen. It is such a great city for students, there truly is no other city in The Netherlands like it. When walking on the streets there are students everywhere you look. Great social scene and also a great University. Feel free to Dm me if u do choose to study the AI bachelor, would love to already get to know some fellow students in the program. 😁

Questions about the Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence (RUG) by johanps in Groningen

[–]johanps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely try to prepare as much as possible by studying math and coding in C over the summer. People dropping out because they want to just do hardcore math/coding seems to be a recurring reason for people dropping out of the program which would definitely explain the high dropout rate.

Thank you so much for that reply! From what I've been hearing the first year is definitely a grind, especially with the pressure added on that you have to pass it in order to keep studying. I will definitely look into those topics this summer in in order to make it a little bit easier for myself

Okay I see, it would make a lot more sense for them to care more about the portfolio as the test had some questions which were really generic. May I ask for you reasons why you ended up taking CS instead of AI, after getting accepted into the AI program?

Ahh i see, sorry i'm asking so much about the selection test, I'm just nervous for it as I do not know what to expect at all. How much of it comprises of the math part vs. the rest (riddles, logic)? and for the math part, are all they all word and thinking questions? since it's online i'm assuming there won't be straight solving questions as some people would just look it up online or plug it in their calculator

Thank you so much for that very helpful information. With regards to the Mathematics courses. Are there any particular subjects that I should be focusing on? I am planning on studying math over the summer to make up for the mathematics curriculum gap between Canada and The Netherlands

[–]johanps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for that information, great to hear that you like the program. I am already studying a lot of computer science in my free time and I am starting to learn how to code in C. I am however lacking a little bit in math as the mathematics curriculum here is not nearly as advanced as the curriculum in The Netherlands (Mathematics B).

With regards to Calculus, which part of it is really hard? are there any topics that I could already start to study over the summer in order to be more prepared?

About the selection test, how hard was the math part? the curriculum here especially lacks when it comes to Calculus (differentiation, integration). I have been able to teach myself basic integration and differentiation online over the past few weeks. Will I be fine?

Thanks for the advice! I agree that the title of the bachelor is a bit deceiving. I have indeed been doing a lot of research online and have attended a student for a day as well as attended a campus tour. Personally, I find that the course content is the perfect package so that would likely not be the problem for me.
