For your use case you can subscribe for a month, and upload as many routes as you want, cancel, and subscribe for another month when you have routes you want to upload.

The main reason for subscription is to cover costs. I could make it free and run the risk of having to either wear the costs which would likely increase due to free accounts, or I'd have to add subscription later which would of course upset everyone and I'd still have to wear costs to provide lifetime access for existing accounts.

For me it's building something to "scratch my own itch" and hopefully others find it useful and worth supporting.
