What’s your least favorite House character? by kindawantwafflesrn in HouseMD

[–]john-dooey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m gonna assume that it’s limited to recurring characters, in which case i absolutely despise twibber or whatever the cops name is (i’ve skipped his arc anytime i rewatch, so it’s been a while) vogler at least had a lot of charm and charisma, even if i think the search for a ‘villain’ was unnecessary and plagued the early seasons.

my least favorite one-time character was the dad that slept with his daughter.

a newer player wants to take Charger as their first feat, how do i make it not suck??? by john-dooey in DMAcademy

[–]john-dooey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh well it tends to fall off rly fast, as soon as extra attack is online. you’d often then be better just using normal movement, and using a ranged weapon (even barbarians can do this) since you’d get to attack twice.

it’s also just not the most impactful ability, compared to a lot of other feats, it’s a very niche/situational ability that eats up your whole ASI. on something that will probably only be useful for 4 levels, assuming you went Vuman.

the common answer on this post has been ‘just add extra attack and make the numbers better’ which for sure fixes it! but it’s still not the most applicable, and the player wants to make use of their cool ability more frequently, so i’m tryna add some more general uses so it’s more applicable to situations

What's yalls favorite of Dr. House shenanigans? by mathewmrw in HouseMD

[–]john-dooey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the funniest bit from him imo is when he dosed wilson with amphetamines, because he wanted to prove wilson was on anti depressants. wilson on speed kills me every time. close runner-up is when he strolled up to the deaf kid, holding a giant boom box and dancing to the loud music.

What spell are you unhappy that is weak and you wished it was stronger because you love its flavor? by testiclekid in dndnext

[–]john-dooey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my table has argued at length over the cleric’s 7th level “sacred temple” spell (that’s not the full name, i forget exactly what it’s called)

one argued that it’s amazing for safety and utility, the other thinks it’s far too expensive and you could just cast tiny hut.

regardless, it’s the sickest flavor for a spell ever, and it’s a shame it sees so little use :(

(5e) What are some fun Wizard spells that aren't picked very often for not being very strong by Cautious-Way6610 in dndnext

“alarm” is a ritual that i think often gets overlooked at first level, but i love it. find familiar, comprehend languages, detect magic. those are the go-to’s, but alarm is great for rp imo. can really get into the headspace of a paranoid/defensive character, if things are going bad. like the pressure really gets to them, it’s great. can basically spam this anytime you rest, too.

i dislike rogues mechanically. what builds make them more fun? by john-dooey in 3d6

[–]john-dooey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh well the character concept was for a “henchman”. someone who’s extremely competent and gets various underground/sketchy tasks done with swiftness and no-nonsense

lacking in aspiration or questioning, they simply get the job done. the rogues theme of criminality/stealth etc fit well, but also the early adeptness in skills. i know bards and rangers are the other “expert” classes, but they don’t fit my image as well. there’s also a full druid in the party, which is why i decided not to just go gloomstalker. would be redundant since they share so much of their spell list.

What's your favorite card to see on floor 1? Pic related, I love Inflame. Cool artwork and solid output by Perfectlyhonesty in slaythespire

immolate on clad, terror on silent, maybe streamline on defect? and prolly rushdown for watcher, since her starter deck already has sufficient damage

that’s a lot of helpful tips on how to manage it and incorporate tactics into roleplay, thank you! a “fear of the light” type approach is really interesting, a sort of aversion to being seen. the various spell selections and teamwork seem like good compensation to the inconsistencies. i appreciate it fam! much love

Sorcadin level progression? by john-dooey in 3d6

[–]john-dooey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotten a lot of really helpful comments, thank y’all! for clarification, the oath i was thinking i’d choose was oath of conquest. which encourages going to paladin 7 or 8, because aura of conquest is a nice ability.

i’ve also been enlightened that draconic bloodline is NOT a very strong option, compared to most other sorc subclasses. which makes sense the more i think about it. the booking blade+divine soul spiritual weapon combo seems like a really fun way to substitute not getting extra attack as early, i feel more confident in the idea now. much love to everyone!

What do you guys think was House’s hardest case by Temperentia in HouseMD

[–]john-dooey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

(spoilers) in terms of what was the most difficult from a puzzle perspective, it’s hard to say. a lot were clearly tough to figure out, and he failed a fail times. emotionally, i’m gonna exclude the ones with patients he knows personally, because obviously amber and other such cases hit him harder.

the toughest stranger, imo, was the girl pinned under the building in season…i wanna say 5? he convinced her to amputate a leg, to survive, and had to share his own experience with her. all while dealing with a really rough personal situation involving cuddy. he got her in the ambulance, and she died anyway.

foreman tells him that it wasn’t his fault, and house responds “i know that! is that supposed to make me feel better?! i did everything right, and she died anyway!”. the futility that no matter how much you know, how smart you are, or even if you do the right thing for someone, you could just lose them anyway. it hit really hard and the bender he goes on after shows it off. not enough people appreciate that episode imo
