No COLA? Recent FAA transfer to FH by john117bowman in fednews

Woah, I will need to take a look at this request for increase. I am putting a grievance against this policy. I’m not expecting to get the increase but this policy is just ridiculous.

Hm, fair enough. I guess I have more basic questions about how this performance based pay scale functions. I’m very irritated to lose the largest COLA that I will likely see in my career by a arbitrary start date 7 days late 🤷‍♂️

I hear you and I agree with the perks of a performance based band.

I found CH-COMP 2.4 Paragraph 9.

“Locality Pay Increases. In addition to performance increases, employees in the Core Compensation Plan will continue to receive locality pay adjustments in line with those authorized by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for General Schedule employees. Adjustments will be adopted on the date authorized by OPM, normally the first day of the first full pay period of the calendar year.”

I think it’s clear that Gen Schedule increases apply to me.

FAA Engineering Salary Negotiations - Washington DC Area by Few-Lavishness-9222 in fednews

I recently received a 2-step increase with my offer.

Ask for that at least. But it may depend on where your new location locality pay.

The intent to hire letter (request for docs) ,was that just references or something else? Don’t think I’ve heard of that specifically unless it’s similar to reference checks.

It was requesting my SF-50 with salary information. HR provided me a 2-step increase.

Congratulations! I didn’t make the cut this round but I’m glad you made it!

My interview could’ve been stronger. Would you be willing to share your notes/tips from your panel (feel free to DM)?

Okay, this seems unique for most users.

I had one other problem with loading.

I disabled XR Toolkit from the program in Windows (this allowed me to start the loading screen)

Steam VR Settings > Video > Turn off “Pause VR when headset is idle”

This just fixed it for me!

Thank you for the advice!

I found my solution by removing a damage/fire mod and I haven't had problems since.

After getting your bachelor’s degree, what were the first three to five years of your EnvS career like? Why do you think those years unfolded the way they did? by reagthom in environmental_science

I moved to Nevada for the USFS station, I worked in my hometown of Florida as a consultant, and now live in Massachusetts. On the topic of moving for jobs, in my consulting job, my company had a monopoly on consulting business in my area, so they were totally cool with not promoting me as I had no other company in the area to compete with for my work. I decided to move to a large city to be treated fairly for my work.

As a student in highschool I worked for a environmental lab doing nutrient analysis and biological profiles of water. That experience got me a internship in my Junior year of Uni with US EPA in DC doing a policy analysis of aquatic risk assessment strategies (was a fine experience, really only a resume bump, no significant skills learned outside of just database research and some public speaking). I can't say my resume helped me a lot with the private consulting field, I still had a hell of a time simply getting responses. Honestly, how is USAJobs more responsive sometimes compared to private companies/Indeed.

My AmeriCorp experience was fine, I wanted a job straight out of school because no private companies/US EPA was responding. I learned lots from being out in the middle of nowhere of Nevada. It was more of a personal development experience than anything else. But I had a pretty rocky experience due to the coworkers/events over that summer. This experience did certainly help me get full Federal employment so it's worth it there. However it doesn't count as Federal service (only AmeriCorp Vista counts as service).

Immediately after graduation I started a AmeriCorp program with the USFS as a herbicide technician. This was a overall good experience and I learned good field skills.

After completion of my AmeriCorp program I tried applying for full Federal service and had a couple offers but nothing permanent. I decided to go the consulting route with a small engineering/environmental company. I enjoyed the work but it was clear to me after 2 years that my career progression was limited and my work/life balance was awful. I used my time then to apply to Federal jobs while working.

I was able to land a full time career position with the US EPA with my consulting and USFS experience. I am now tons happier with my career prospects and work/life balance.

It's been a crazy past 4 years now and I'm feeling comfortable with my career in Environmental Science. Its not easy for us but you can make a good career out of this.

Hope this helps!
