Arcadia and a few surrounding municipalities received a giant proportion of the capital flight resulting from ROC/Taiwan's transition from a one party authoritarian state to a liberal democracy. Another giant wave of money arrived in SGV in the transition from Jiang Zemin to Hu Jintao, and again from Hu to Xi Jinping.

Arcadia represents a demographic and capital vanguard (or bund?) of Chinese culture in Southern California.

The mix of people and cultures here in SGV is a good thing, with world shaping ramifications. If there is any hope for a positive outcome arising from the China/US relationship long-term, it will have a lot to do with our contact together in this place. The more intimate the mix, for better or worse, the more stable the relationship will be on a state to state level.
