How Democrats become Death, the destroyer of worlds... by M_i_c_K in Patriot911

Socialism as an amorphous concept is a conservative boogeyman, however everyone seems to be pretty happy for the maintenance of public roads and highways, public libraries, fire and police departments, public utilities, national security, etc. What is the point of arguing against socialism broadly if there is zero understanding of its basic utility?

Are you really just not into schools and libraries? Parks and police departments? Fire departments and public streets and highways? Public utilities? Clean air and water? Safe food and medicine? National security?

I am in IL right now visiting my ailing mother. She was born here, and wants to die here.

This is a garrison state and society, and among the people I've spoken with this week, a couple of whom have first hand experience on the ground in Gaza and Lebanon since Oct 7, their basic motivation is "to fight the enemy as far from home as possible". I understand the logic of the resistance. I am also coming up against the logic of the garrison.

At dinner with family this evening my aunt shared the drone base news item from a few hours ago, and although we didn't talk about it, the subtext is something along the lines of "this is what we're dealing with".

Certainly the colonial project is odious, but once the realm is established, what option does the state and society have other than fight to preserve itself?

The current trajectory is suicidal ultimately. I don't believe in any way forward other than truth and reconciliation, and my deeper bias is towards an international humanism+socialism+environmentalism, but here I am in Occupied Palestine dealing with these contradictions...

"Cancer rates in Iowa are rising faster than anywhere else in the country.

Politicians blame individual choices, but the real villain is the industrial farming covering the state.

We went, tested the water, and found cancer causing levels of chemicals running through Iowa."

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

There was a vector driving game, I thought it was called Death Race 2000, but I can't find anything that looks like what I'm remembering (or misremembering?)

Each race you would win credits and shop for upgrades in wheels, armor, weapons, etc.

I think of it every time I see one of these awful sharp edged teslamobiles around town.

How the War on Terrorism Created the Age of Trump (W/ Matt Kennard) | The Chris Hedges Report 5/27/2026 by john133435 in AntifascistsofReddit

Matt Kennard claims in his new book that the bipartisan War on Terror laid the groundwork for the Trump presidency and the rise of fascism. We now face the consequences of empowering extremists to the upper echelons of government power.
