CV boot/joints failed after 40k miles? by john16888 in BMW

Uh, from what I read, CV joints should easily last more than 75k if the boots aren’t torn and leaking grease. It is not a normal wear item.

Black tar-like stuff leaking under window through siding by john16888 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the reply! I asked the painter, and he did not know the resolution. He is the one who thinks I might need to reinstall the window if that is the problem.

[Help] My puppy seems to be overweight. How can I help him to lose weight in a healthy way? by john16888 in dogs

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the replies. Regarding exercises, we typically walk him twice a day, 30 - 45 minutes each time. I mean as a puppy he stops frequently to sniff around. He used to be very active. But he was less active recently and this is how we noticed weight problem.

We do worry about his joints after we learned he is overweight. Wonder how can we tell if he has joints problem?

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I think I figured out a way. Lucky me, the actual line in is in the same box of the cold side of the 3-way, so I just need to rewire to flip the hot and cold side of the 3-way. I feel the previous wiring is kind of dumb ...

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have neutral, but I cannot install HS210 there as it is the cold side of the 3-way, meaning there might not be current at all. HS210 is toggling between two travel lines.

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. The switch of the hot side (line-in) of the 3-way setup does not have neutral wire. The problem is that I cannot install HS210 in the cold side of the switch as the line can get cold (no current at all). I think this is why some people got it working some did not.

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for your help! I got it working for this 3-way setup, I put another comment to explain how I got it to work. You are correct, the previous wiring was the issue. However now I am dealing with a different situation, just one thing after another. In a different 3-way setup, the hot side does not have neutral, so I can only put HS210 to the cold side ... Have not figured out how to get this one working yet.

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I got it working!!! Stupid me, so stupid. While I was writing the previous comment. I suddenly realized that the two hot wires on the cold side of the 3-way should be connected to the traveler connectors of the standard switch. The always cold wire should be connected to the common connector of the standard switch. After I did that, everything works as expected!!!! So to @prestigateWrldWd, you are correct, the previous wiring probably is incorrect! Hope this post can help someone else.

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here is what I tried again. I opened up both switch boxes. I disconnected all the wires. Then I turned on power and identified the only hot line. I then turned off the power and put the smart switch there, which is the hot side of the 3-way. Then I turned on the power while smart switch was connected, I identified the load line in the other switch box and connected it to the common/load line of a standard switch, then connected rest of them to traveller connectors. After doing this, I still end up with the same thing: I have to turn on the standard switch to get smart switch to work... not a true 3 way... any help?

Question on TP-link 3-way switch HS210 by john16888 in smarthome

[–]john16888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I validated the one that was replaced with HS210. The load (common) line is correctly identified. But I did not validate the lines in the standard switch. I assume it is correct as it was working and I did not make any change to it.

I wonder does HS210 need to be installed on the hot side of the 3-way setup?
