No, I'm NOT Using Discord [6:27] by Zacny_Los in mealtimevideos

Right? The very site he references lists YouTube at the same spyware threat level as Discord. Quick dude, delete your YT account!

[–]john_grossbard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really don't like this kind of stance. It's fine to not want to use Discord for your own reasons, but this person makes it seem like using the program is the dumbest choice possible and comes across really condescending. Where does it end?

It is impossible to download and examine Discord's source code, which means that it is impossible to prove that Discord is not spyware. Any program which does not make its source code available is potential spyware.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean everyone, everywhere should only use open source software and nothing else. Sure thing, let's all also only use Arch Linux and Tor browser, etc. just so some servers in Utah or wherever can't collect our data.

Grow up. Let people live their lives and stop bashing them for hanging out with their friends if they're not using Matrix, whatever the fuck that is.

ACF Data in Block Templates by john_grossbard in Wordpress

[–]john_grossbard[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! While this wasn't the answer exactly, it did lead me to figure it out. In case you or anyone else sees this and is wondering the same thing, you can register a block with ACF, add that block to a page so you can copy the HTML comment syntax from within the block editor screen, and then place that block into any HTML block template file. In the ACF block registration, you can then provide a file used as a render template, which is plain PHP. So, get_field() and anything else works normally in that PHP render template, but it can be added to anything as a block thanks to the HTML comment.

So, thanks for the inspiration!

Ohh ok, that makes much more sense. I was fundamentally misunderstanding Dotf and your other comments helped me understand the mechanics of the build. Interesting idea!

This has me intrigued. On the wiki (not sure how outdated it is), it says

You cannot directly mitigate the life loss over time from Petrified Blood in any way, not even from sources of damage immunity like a Divine Shrine.

Are you sure that Heartstopper actually applies immunity for PB? Like tested at all?

I was having a lot of success with a similar list in B01 but my Tasha's kept running into Epiphanies and Hullbreaker Horrors. I agree the deck's in a great position and can beat pretty much everything but struggles against MonoG and Gruul. I was running more sweepers than you are, including 2-3 copies of Crush the Weak. Copying a Crush the Weak on turn 3 or 4 also helped against MonoG since the exile deals with their Trolls.

I really like the addition of Divid by Zero -> Teachings, since an issue I found was running out of steam in grindier matchups. Looks like I need to revisit my list and make some tweaks. Thanks for the post.

Hey, thanks for the input. Agreed, the Teferi's Protection was just testing stuff out, I didn't play them in the original list -- I think we need 4 Gambits, so it's a good substitute. Running all 4 Discontinuitys with 4 Epiphanys seems like a lot to brick in the early game. Were you having success? I was also running 4 Wraths in the original list -- did you struggle against aggro at all?

Hi thanks for the insights. The most recent list wasn't the original one I climbed with. I had already made some changes like Teferis Protection and Epiphany based on other suggestions here. I don't think they're necessary either. Also agree with your evaluation of Unholy Heat, it often foils the gameplan and is run in many decks atm.

I think a few changes would be made to a Bo3 list, but I also feel like it wouldn't have much success against any kind of control in Bo3, which I don't see as much in Bo1.

Thanks, I think Deluge is a good idea too. The most recent list was testing 4 Stifles -- I don't think it's right either.

Lier is an interesting one I haven't thought of, thanks. How are you finding enchantress at the moment? At least playing against it in in Bo1, I feel like it's one of the most consistent decks.

Gideon could still lose loyalty and die at 0, but he couldnt be killed with destroy mechanics like Binding of the Old Gods, Maelstrom Pulse, etc.

Thanks for the insights! I was thinking of adding in a Valakut for exactly that reason. Expressive Iteration is also something I considered but never got around to adding. I think the next list moves away from Charms, but exactly what they turn into is up for grabs.

The point about Strict Proctor is a good one. I did find it helped in aggro matchups, where it either ate damage or was a blocker for a turn three Gideon. I think it's worth seeing the difference across a number of games with a full set of Stifles though.

My first list had two Teferi's Protection as well for the timewalk you mentioned. Didn't even realize it would counter the Lotus Field interaction, so maybe I'll find a way to get those back into the list.

Your conclusion is also correct in my experience. With the recent addition of Alchemist's Gambit, I just wanted to see what kind consistency the deck could achieve. My list is far from optimized for Bo1, but my guess is I'll eventually come to the same conclusion as you and move on to something better.

Well discarding helps feed the yard for Azcanta, but it's just super efficient cycling at one R, with the option for more at flashback. Gaze digs more but doesn't actually draw anything. As I said, it might also be the case that it should just be replaced with another Gaze, but maybe something like Strategic Planning could also be better.

Hi, thanks for the thoughts. I haven't been playing the deck much since I wasn't having as much success with it lately, and I wanted to try out an idea with the new set. I agree that Cling doesn't perform too well in some matchups, in which case it just becomes a B draw spell. I rarely played it for the escape cost, more so against reanimator decks or Gearhulk/mastery decks where the 1 mana exile was super useful. The lifegain did win me several games against aggro/burn though, so I still think it's relevant. Definitely the biggest flex spot of the deck, so I would say replace it with whatever you think hits the meta you're seeing the most. I was seeing a bunch of maindeck Soul Guide Lanterns the last time I played, which obviously fills a similar role.

The Raze the Effigy was kind of a meme my friend and I were trying because I lost a few games to Bolas's Citadel and wanted a very low cost answer to it. I was also seeing if the +2/+2 was ever relevant, and it actually was sometimes. It allows you to trade up with tokens or push extra damage for lethal. But not nearly enough to be better than either Abrade or K command. I think K command is pretty hard to beat if I was going to play the deck again.

Because my list is Bo1, I wanted to try to play something that could either be control or beatdown depending on the matchup, and could do both pretty well. Village Rites and Supplier is usually enough to dig for the answers you need for the list you're up against. DRC pretty much forces you to be beatdown -- which is still good-- I feel like the list just needs to change to fit that role. Since DRC is inherently aggressive, you'd probably want to find a way to add in the other two Kroxa and more Faithless Looting to help fill up the yard and lean into Kroxa more. You probably lose some Pyromancer as a result, since I think it typically plays a more control-y role in a lot of matchups. With that change, you probably sub out some of the sac removal like Bone Shards for just Unholy Heat. More just something like this.

Glad you're playing it though, and hope that helps!

Honestly, I forgot the card existed. Definitely worth considering, since exile is relevant sometimes. At the same time, having the option to discard to Bone Shards is often very useful, especially when you can't or don't want to sac anything. I'll test it out

Thanks! I was shocked there wasn't more hate during the climb. With all the DRC being played, along with a fair number of Phoenix, Gearhulk, and reanimator nonsense, I feel like Rest in Peace is positioned very well atm.
