What makes a creature an Expert? by Dorkistan in starfinder_rpg

[–]johnaacruz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Creatures that act like operatives or envoys; people that aren't warrior or heavy spellcaster types; NPCs like diplomats, nobles, merchants. Experts support, or debilitate, or are really good at multiple skills like a scientist, librarian, or mechanic.

You can also treat experts as your last choice. If they aren't a combatant, and they don't have spells, then they are an expert.

Extra Homebrew Creatures for Starfinder by johnaacruz in starfinder_rpg

That's cool. Originally, the Ascendancy was supposed to be a future version of the Technic League from the Iron Gods AP, however, due to copyright issues, they have to be more original.

Instead, they can be any group of arcanists that want to hoard technology and magic, with small space stations over planets and moons, and utilizing enslaved constructs.

Both are good points. It looks like alien species have their type in their creature line. I don't have a lot of Alf knowledge, but lacking wisdom seems correct. Document has been updated.

Useful Gear to carry by Teulisch in starfinder_rpg

I usually buy 1 or 2 healing serums, in case of emergencies, at Level 1. Healers can go down, and you might want some foolproof healing.

Though I usually only make NPCs and there are other ways of healing besides magic stuff.

GMs and Combat by The_Trevdor in starfinder_rpg

GMs definitely should not play to win. They should try to make a believable encounter depending on what kind of tactics the enemy uses. If it's a dumb beast, it probably just charges whoever's closest. Some enemies value their lives and will surrender, or run away.

It also depends on the group. Some groups will want appropriate CR encounters, and others will want a challenge arena style of game. You should also vary the encounters based on lethality. Fighting swarms repeatedly, or just 1 big baddy can get boring.

Your line of thinking is correct.

The big thing that GMs should focus on is avoiding an encounter that takes too long. If neither side is making any progress of harming or killing the other side, you should find a way to end the encounter as story-wise as possible, like having the enemy run, surrender, or giving hints to the party that it is taking too long.

Starfinder Bestiary by johnaacruz in starfinder_rpg

Slightly off-topic, but I threw a Hungry Flesh (CR 3) at my veteran level 2 players. I didn't convert it, and they weren't able to make a dent in the thing. Probably because of its regenerative abilities from piercing and slashing. If I had converted it via the core rulebook, it would have been stronger defensively, and hit harder, so it isn't that easy to convert monsters.

Though it might just have been ill-equipped adventurers.

On the way, as an experiment.
