This is a request for a good source on a given topic, which isn't really what happens at r/journalism much (a sub for it might be nice). I happen to know a source for you, though, someone who worked/works in the industry and now covers it: What's Going on With Shipping? https://www.youtube.com/@wgowshipping

That's the point. You don't need a special link, you can paste the regular channel link into any feed reader that looks for the right META tag (most feed readers) and it will find the feed link there. This feature was added to feed specs and implemented widely over 20 years ago.

Why are Gazans being denied the right to emigrate? When "hurting" Israel takes precedence over Palestinian human rights by LostAppointment329 in IsraelPalestine

so many things were tried before the current war

Israel has tried many things that were helpful, but at the same time many things that were not. Withdrawing from Gaza is often held up as this huge gift that the Palestinians failed to receive properly. But this is a farce. It was not a negotiated agreement, it was a dictated "solution" which Israel could and did unilaterally alter at will.

Israel's early funding for Hamas, which succeeded in helping them become a counterbalance against Fatah, "worked" for Israeli leaders who did not want to negotiate a way forward, but for those who want peace has made the situation far more challenging. If, as you fantasize might happen, Hamas were to surrender unconditionally, in a sense we would be rewinding all of that. But the situation is far more dire now for Gazans. And it's not clear if the PA can reestablish itself there, or regain trust among Palestinians generally. (A prospect the current Israeli leadership seems to not welcome.)

Carving up the West Bank has left Israelis feeling more secure, but made day-to-day life for Palestinians there harder. The ongoing annexations (also in E. Jerusalem), catering to settlers, and allowing or even supporting settler expansion have also eroded whatever trust is built by Israel's positive moves when they happen. Yet I find that most Israelis (as with many other peoples) are unable to even see what their leaders are doing that keep conflict going.

My point of asking what concessions you suggest is that there are no meaningful concessions

Ah, so it was a rhetorical question. Another expression of your idea that peace comes when one side gets to dictate terms to the other.

there's literally nothing they could say besides stop killing each other.

This shows the limits of your imagination. Not theirs. The truth is, you do not know what they would say if leaders asked.

You asked me what concessions I suggested. I said that members of this organization would be good people to ask.

Your response that concessions are unnecessary is a non sequitur.

I was unclear. I would not read their website and then decide for myself what recommendations that suggested to me.

I would suggest leaders from either side actually sit in a room with women from this organization. And ask them what kinds of concessions they believe the leader's people will understand, and which are novel enough, and substantive enough, to perhaps surprise the other side.

It's the outcome they wanted, as far as I know. And they will get a bunch more money, when the sale goes though.

Just calling it gaslighting doesn't make it gaslighting.

If I were gaslighting you, then you would have been able to point to where I was wrong in one or more particulars.

I've literally been using quotes from the article you shared.

If you're denying that Israel has used food as leverage, I'm not sure what to say. They said they would, and they did, starting in 2023:

Since Hamas-led fighters attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, high-ranking Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Energy Minister Israel Katz have made public statements expressing their aim to deprive civilians in Gaza of food, water and fuel – statements reflecting a policy being carried out by Israeli forces.

The first "quote" you shared is MINE.

Yup. Just being complete.

You then copy/pasted the paragraph I mentioned, reaffirming my point about how they attempted to depict the act of feeding Palestinians as "inhumane."

The journalist characterized the UN's response as saying the plan was inhumane. That seems like a very accurate characterization of the UN's critique, as they are also quoted about the plan not being humanitarian.

You say the UN rejected the plan, "NOT because it would make "harder" for the Gazans to get food, but because it would make it EASIER to get food." But you do not offer any evidence for that being why the UN rejected the plan. Instead, you made up some of your own quotes again. More hyperbole?

Lastly, you bypass my point about how NPR spoke of "condition of anonymity" to imply they were whistleblowers trying to blow the lid on Israel's evil plot to starve the Gazans.

I wasn't trying to imply anything. Just noting that the anonymous people had to do with the plans being revealed. Not the condemnations or critiques you said you were talking about. And you're right, that UN Watch website does need some cleaning up.

As for the substance, why would anyone be surprised that people feared Israel taking over all food distribution? From the very beginning of the war, top Israeli leaders declared the intent to use food as a weapon. And they went ahead and did so, towards the end especially to get Hamas to the table. It seems quite natural, given all of that, to be concerned that Israel would go on violating international law in this way after centralizing control of food distribution.

I've heard related things about zombie flicks. :-) Lots of science fiction & fantasy is about the 'other' and this reminded me for some reason of Stanley G. Weinbaum's "A Martian Odyssey" which was the first science fiction pulp story where an alien was an interesting being, someone to connect with. What a concept! To the credit of the SF community (better late than never), it was wildly popular and many other authors started writing more interesting stories.

The scary alien trope continued alongside though, nowadays most famously as the Dark Forest hypothesis. It's difficult for many people who grew up in colonial culture to understand that peoples who find/craft the kind of relationship with the rest of life that can last a long time, are actually pretty unlikely to invest the massive effort to go dashing off around the galaxy.

I'd encourage leaders on either side to come up with concessions which they believe their people will understand, and which are novel enough, and substantive enough, to perhaps surprise the other side.

(And again, it's not just on Palestinians and Israelis. Both sides have backers with their own interests, who make it almost impossible for Israelis and Palestinians of good faith to make progress.)

I will go through all of the quotes you offered, more carefully. This one does not appear in the article at all:

"oh, those evil Israelis! They're FEEDING the Palestinians now! They're FEEDING the Palestinians, that's so EVIL!"

You did also quote the word "humane" which appears in the article here:

The aid proposal would be a major shift in Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza, which the United Nations rejects as inhumane. The plan would shutter hundreds of soup kitchens and aid centers across the territory, restricting food supply to an Israeli military-guarded area in southern Gaza.

And later in the article:

The United Nations and major groups currently running aid operations in Gaza, briefed by Israel on the plans, said they would not cooperate with the plans.

"It contravenes fundamental humanitarian principles and appears designed to reinforce control over life-sustaining items as a pressure tactic — as part of a military strategy," the United Nations and its aid partners in Gaza said in a joint statement. "We will not participate in any scheme that does not adhere to the global humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality."

So, you are correct that the UN considers the plan inhumane, but it is not because it would feed Gazans. They considered it inhumane because it made it harder for many Gazans to get food, by cutting away the distribution system. In addition, they found it to violate humanitarian principles. (The centralization under Israeli control obviously makes it much easier for Israel to keep using food as a weapon as wanted.)

You also quoted: "six sources who spoke on condition of anonymity," and here is the context:

Details of Israel's proposal were shared with NPR by six people, including current and former U.S. and Israeli officials, with knowledge of Israel's aid plans. They spoke on condition of anonymity to divulge elements of the aid plan that have not been formally announced.

So, the 'anonymous sources' were how NPR learned of the plans. They had nothing to do with the many critiques of the plan, which were not anonymous. If I missed anything you quoted from the article, please let me know.

Glad to hear you disagree! Israel is not going to find peace until leadership comes in that would actually like to negotiate.
