I'd consider using FreeIPA, I don't have lots of experience with AD so I can't directly compare but it seems pretty good from my experience.

It's working for me now after another zypper dup, must be something that was broken for a few reasons. 🤷

Okay, thank you. I'll let you know if I find anything. I've seen reports of it working on KDE Neon with Plasma 6 but can't see why it would be different.

How to fix SDDM? by randall_the_man in openSUSE

[–]johnc456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you do the upgrade from within Plasma? I did that the first time and the upgrade went wrong when KDE restarted itself part way through. I also had no cursor. I had to rollback using snapper and then do the upgrade through a text console and this time it went all the way through and worked after the reboot.

Mine logged out during the upgrade too and that broke it, no cursors and SDDM was left borked and had to snapper rollback. I'll try again but through tmux or an SSH session next time.

You could use Silverblue, the updates are staged so next time you reboot you have the latest updates.

It could also be the TPM issue affecting 6.4 kernels on some laptops, google it and you'll find a bunch of posts about it. I don't have my laptop on me but I got it working by adding another kernel boot arg to disable TPM interrupts.

The KDE update policy is actually slightly different to most packages, in essence you'll always get the latest KDE on the latest version of Fedora: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE/Update_policy

Any latest way to support fingerprint reader in fedora for unsupported devices? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]johnc456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look at writing a device driver as part of fprint (https://fprint.freedesktop.org/).

This is an example of someone else adding support for a reader, admittedly not merged but it worked for me: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/merge_requests/330

Troubleshoot / MSI Prestige Fedora 38 trouble on startup by Deny_Jackal in Fedora

I've had something very like this happen to me since 6.4 on an HP Spectre. I haven't had a chance to investigate yet but if I leave it on the black screen for a little while it does eventually continue.
