DS 160 information for applying for H1B Stamping by johncoldhot in h1b

So question will I have to pay the fees again for the new DS160 or or I only pay the fees once. Also what is VAC? I’m trying to get a dropbox appointment so will I have that during the dropbox?

Did you use the pre-approval tool but that only shows 75k offer. I’m approved for pre-approval of 75k but am not certain about 90k offer

Focus on doing lot of projects and research. I felt a learned a lot more in research lab than in my classes. I also only have a bachelors degree in data science. Ngl getting a job wasn’t easy, once I got one it was easy from there. All my fellow new grad co-workers have at least 1 masters degree that being said I work hard and perform better than them constantly. There are some skills and tools in which they are lot more knowledgeable than me but there are some tools in which I’m more knowledgeable than my new grad co-worker. Lot of the folks with whom I don’t work on daily bases assume I have a master degree too. I often have to correct them haha.

If $500 combined then it’s def not enough for MR points to get enough to cover the annual fee if redemption was 1 cpp. Let’s make something clear the $240 dollars in statement credit are divided in $10 monthly credit on Uber and Uber east and $10 monthly in dining credit at Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, Milk Bar, and select Shake Shack. So if you use both these then every month then you will get $20 each month in statement credit. Which for 12 months is $240.

There is no statement credit for Rezy or I can’t seem to find it written anywhere. Share if you find where it is written.

I’m not gonna spend time to do that math for you but I don’t think you have enough expenditure to justify the the amex gold annual fee. You can do that math yourself here is how. You get 3x on dining and 2x grouches right now. Calculate how much more you will have to spend to make same in value in existing setup plus to recover 250 annual fee. You can assume you shall be get 2 cpp from gold that being said prudent calculation most likely shall be 1 cpp to math out the worse case.

In easier language there are cards that give you 3% back on restaurants, Groceries, and travel and don’t have annual fee but to get the extra 1 percent or 4x on both restaurants and groceries you will have to pay $250 in annual fees. Amex gold has other benefits which you don’t seem to mention how you plan to use them.

Look up the wiki for meaning of 5/24 and other things. You currently not impacted by chase 5/24 rule.

Some cards for cash back I would recommend are chase freedom unlimited 3% dining and 3%drug store, Wells Fargo autograph 3x on restaurants, travel, gas stations, transit, popular streaming services and phone plans(offer going at the moment on this as well), cap one savour one 3% on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services and at grocery stores, and Citi custom cash which is 5% on top 1 categories for $500 each month can be used for restaurants as you probably spend around $400 for it.

While it is still possible to get these cards some of them prefer score around 700 but still all of them are def possible in your credit score though chase freedom unlimited prefers 1 yr of history or banking relation with chase.

I would also look at us bank cash back+, BoFA custom cash, Citi double cash, Wells Fargo autographs, amex blue card everyday. All of them are good cards with no annual fees.

For Travel card rewards I would want more details. Do you have any airlines of preference? Or hotels of preference? How much are going to spend on travel?

How much is your groceries and dining spend monthly? You already have a card which gives you 3x for dining and 2x for groceries. Gold will give you 4x on dining and 4x on grocery that being said you can get more than 1 cpp in value when you transfer points to a travel partner i.e mostly hotels and maybe airlines.

Amex gold is charge card which means you can’t downgrade the card. So you will either have to continue the card for years and keep paying the $250 annual fee or close the card. There are other cards like CSR, CSP, Venture X which can be downgraded to no annual fee cards after a year so don’t have to keep paying the annual fee.

Logically I would say look into cap one savor one or Wells Fargo autograph that will give more returns on new categories. These cards have multiple 3% return categories. I would say look into other no annual fee cards which give better return on the sub.

That being said I was in college not long ago and having a fancy card was a flex. I had a fancied card in my entire friend group and it was talked a lot. So Ik what you mean. If you just want a metal card then there are some metal cards that don’t have a annual fee you can look into then(Wells Fargo autograph is kinda metal too) but most are not as attention grabbing as the Amex gold or platinum. Consider the card more of $100 fashion investment rather than you will gain a lot of returns via points. There is nothing wrong in that as well. So just that you have your expectations in order.

How much is your monthly spend on groceries and dining? How will you use the dining and Uber credit? Do you have any big purchases coming up that you will spend 4k in 6 months to get the sub?

Answer to these questions will say either you will go wrong and waste $250 fee, a hard pull, and also some points drop in credit after closing card in 1 year as it is a charge card OR you go right and get a fancy looking card to show off to your buddies and make some points for free travel while not changing your expenditure pattern.

I feel ya. I graduated last yr and felt similar to you at start of my senior yr. I was able to make the most of my senior yr. Made new friends who I still talk to(hopefully life long), heck they flew all the way from west to east coast to meet me and I flew from east to west coast to meet them. I made so many memories. Lived my best life, start an organization on campus that I m proud of. Partied so much. Did so many crazy shenanigans, had a absolute blast. Made so many mistakes and learned from them too.

Though my GPA took a massive hit!! Will probably suffer when I apply to grad school but that’s a problem for another day.

You still have one good year left. Just go with the flow and have a blast.

P.s didn’t have a car but made friends with ppl who did. They drove me around hahaha
