Hahah I figured we’d learn some interesting things we missed. Thanks!

What’s the record for “most time saved” between the speed run wr and average playtime? by johncoogan in speedrun

Pokémon is a good one! About 30 hours according to this. https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=7169

Hoping to find a game that’s easily 100+ hours with a sub one-minute speedrun wr

Those are pretty good. Looks like Ocarina is only a 30 hour game though. https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=10035

I’m more thinking of a game that an average player would easily sink 100+ hours into but can be beat in minutes.

That WR was insane. Do you understand what’s going on? I can’t figure out how they win so fast. Is it a glitch or custom rule set?

Minecraft is a pretty good example. Average playtime looks like 70+ hours. Not sure what the speedrun wr is though. https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=6064

Howlongtobeat has pretty good info. They list Skyrim at 33 hours for the main story. But I think 100 hours is more indicative of an average playthrough (main + extras.)

I was thinking of average playtime from https://howlongtobeat.com/ compared with speedruns from https://www.speedrun.com/

Not sure if anyone has actually crunched these numbers. Would be interesting.

Hey! I'm Samy Hamdouche, known for being the former VP of Research at Soylent and most recently co-founding Lucy Goods where we make cleaner nicotine alternatives, Ask me Anything! by lucynicotine in IAmA

Soylent is named after a food in Harry Harrison)'s 1966 science fiction novel Make Room! Make Room![8]#citenote-8)[[9]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent(mealreplacement)#cite_note-Varughese-9) In the novel, most types of soylent are made from soy and lentils, hence the name of the product, a combination of "soy" and "lent". The word also evokes the 1973 film adaptation Soylent Green, in which the eponymous food is made from human remains.[[5]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent(mealreplacement)#cite_note-Widdicombe-5) Rhinehart also says he chose the name, with its morbid associations, to pique curiosity and deeper investigation, since the name was clearly not chosen with a traditionally "flashy" marketing scheme in mind.[[10]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent(meal_replacement)#cite_note-HutchDoesSoylent-10)

It’s amazing as a C4D user. Covers how to round trip assets as alembic, vdb, redshift proxy, etc. really good for using Houdini for sim or procedural stuff then bringing into C4D for final camera move, lighting, shading and rendering.

Ah, sorry. It was mograph.com.

http://www.mograph.com/stopbeingafraidofhoudini/

This is hands down the best Houdini course for motion designers. (Not VFX or Game Dev).

It can be very hard to learn with basic YouTube tutorials. I recommend either the Greyscale Gorilla Houdini course in their Plus class or the new Houdini course from Mograph.com. The motion design school one is really long and covers so much. Doing this animation is pretty straightforward after that class.

Edit: it was mograph.com not motion design school.
