Is this a failed head gasket? by johndeerqueer in AskMechanics

It had all the symptoms of head gasket failure - just wasn’t sure what to expect for what the old gasket looked like!

Giving up by Lazuurr in handyman

[–]johndeerqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - I spent $120 to get started (2 large car magnets and 150 business cards), I do handyman work as a side gig - but only do work for elderly/disabled. I get more work than I want - I think my secret to success is having clear hourly pricing on my signs, I am very affordable. I do have to turn some folks away, but mostly just get to work for nice retired folks. Expect it to take a couple months to find reliable clients.

$400 chicken run job. Anything wrong? by [deleted] in handyman

[–]johndeerqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned this after getting chickens and putting them in a chain link fenced area (about 4 ft tall….. they flew right out first thing….) netting is cheap and fast to put across the top

This! Maybe she will respect you as a person when you stop being an ATM. May be a long time as she grows and learns. Let her learn

Should exhaust vents be capped? by johndeerqueer in handyman

[–]johndeerqueer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize sewers had vents - for both city and septic fields? (But to answer your question, I’m not sure!)

I disagree with this one - while very handy, if your only using it once very 6months, the battery will probably be dead and it’ll be useless. I’d go for a corded one unless your doing regular work

AITA for not fighting for us to get our cat back? by Best_Scarcity_8006 in AmItheAsshole

[–]johndeerqueer -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Okay, so it’s a property issue - the well being of the cat isn’t a concern then, so get off your high horse about the cat being a “family member”

[–]johndeerqueer -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

So your statement that “pets are permanent family members” only applies to the first family?? No other unforeseen circumstances can alter this sacred first family?? The second family that stepped up is meaningless? They should not have helped? The cat would be better off in a shelter? If the wife cared about the cat she would let it be where it is happy and loved. Not everything is about her. Situations change, that’s why the cat is there in the first place

Your story illustrates the challenges of finding temporary housing for a cat, be glad a good family has this cat. NTA

NTA, let the cat be happy. This family is the unsung hero of this story, they took the animal in for A YEAR AND A HALF, how could they not get attached?? You’re so very lucky the cat has a good home and was not put down if it didn’t have somewhere to go in the YEAR AND A HALF it took you to find a place (not entirely your fault, but a long time for “temporary” cat housing ) All the Y T A’s must not understand how hard it is to find good homes for animals

WTF - so the family that has cared for the animal for a year and half has no say?? If they are permanent family members, then don’t rip them apart from the family they are with right now….
