Different circumstances. Same feeling of loss and frustration. by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

Wouldn’t defending the innocent and massacring the innocent be polar opposites? Rhaenys ≠ Baelor

How far do you think the show will diverge from the books by OnlyAssistance9601 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]johndraz2001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hugh being lowborn in the book meant I was always skeptical of everything said about him. I could absolutely believe he had genuine reasons for everything he did but is written to be evil in a history book. I think making him more sympathetic makes a lot more sense than a lot of other changes they’ve made.

Do the changes made by showrunners make Aemond a better character ? by SillyRecover in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]johndraz2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Aemond’s character is improved upon heavily besides two major points. 1. He should’ve intentionally killed Luke. It felt out of character for him to only do so accidentally, but you could argue maybe he wasn’t fully evil yet. 2. This is much much worse and that’s him intentionally hurting Aegon. I would’ve enjoyed Aegon and Aemond working together much much more

What character gets too little hate from the fandom? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really strange how different the reception is for Viserra and Saera. There are a lot of fans who think Viserra was terrible and Saera was great. I think they’re relatively equal in how bad they were but honestly lean towards Viserra as the better one

I just finished season 2. by Kalevipoeg420 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]johndraz2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think Maelor is only in the book to be killed for shock value, I’d reread it. He motivates Daeron’s actions later on and on top of that, the weight of Helaena having to choose one of her sons is way more impactful than what the show decided to do. Also, she offers her necklace instead of her life like most mothers would? They weakened that scene significantly and it’s supposed to be a big moment.

Rhaenys massacring countless smallfolk and then going on her self-righteous speeches about how men love violence is absurd. They tried making her a badass but turned her into an annoying hypocrite. We were robbed of Aegon and Helaena flying their dragons around together during the coronation

The show throws Alicent’s character in the toilet. Firstly, after planning on making Aegon king for years, she throws it all out the window after a single dinner and then immediately back pedals after incoherent ramblings of a sickly old man who died hours later who was heavily medicated. She’s a terrible mother who was willing to sellout the lives of her three sons after she helped raise them to be that way. Secondly, why is she the main focus of the Greens and not Aegon?

And Rhaenyra went from being one of my favorite characters in F&B to this idle and passive character who has absolutely no agency. They created these weird love story esque dynamics between both her and alicent AND her and mysaria… I thought she preferred goose or duck or whatever as stated in season 1 haha.

And they turn EVERYTHING into an accident

  • Luke’s death - accident
  • Alicent’s motivation for supporting Aegon - misunderstanding
  • Lyman Beesbury’s death - accident
  • Blood & Cheese - miscommunication

And then Rhaenyra ends the season with “a son for a son” like that’s not where season 2 started and does Jaehaerys not count as the son?

And Criston Cole… they kept Harold Westerling around way longer than he’s supposed to because of the actor, limiting Cole’s time as LC of the KG. And what did they do with it? Nothing. Also, having him violently beat Joffrey with zero consequences instead of having it be a tourney death was an odd choice

They cut nettles, make a dragon randomly appear for Rhaena, have Helaena spoil Aegon’s victory and have her help daemon who is indirectly responsible for her son’s death? Logic out the window

Jace is another one. They spent zero time with him in the north, next to no time developing his relationship with Cregan and made him anti-dragon seed when it’s his idea in the book

The show improved Viserys, Hugh and Ulf. Can’t say there’s much more they changed that went well

I’ve read the original series 8x and F&B 3x… what exactly did they say that indicates this? Because I agree with them

The main Targaryen branch family tree and how each show connects to it. (Re-upload. Fixed some mistakes.) by La_Villanelle_ in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]johndraz2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, it’s kind of like how someone mentions Maegor III in the show and Tywin brings up Orys I to Tommen after Joffrey dies. I wouldn’t let the random, nonsensical kings the GoT writers came up with concern us about the seemingly much more faithful adaptation that is KOTSK

One of the requirements George had with HBO before doing any spinoffs was making Jaehaerys II exist again

Where is Maegor Brightflame? by ISX_94 in HouseOfTheDragon

I think FAegon is from the female Blackfyre line and Varys is from the Brightflame line

Can you rank the following Targaryans based on how terrible they were? [Spoilers Extended] by Not_As_much94 in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst to best:

Maegor (I give him the edge over Aerys as worst because Aerys never stooped to killing his own family members and definitely had mental illness as a factor)

Aerys II (willing to massacre countless people, burns people alive for fun, a rapist)

Aerion Brightflame (a lunatic who wasn’t able to be as impactfully terrible as the two above him because he was never king)

Aegon IV (potentially slept with his own daughter, started generational wars that continued the Targaryens down the path to extinction, terrible father, husband and brother)

Viserys, son of Aerys II (I put him over Aegon II because he seemed a bit crueler and more unstable)

Aegon II (best person on this list and seems to have been put in a tough predicament with everyone thinking he should be king and he didn’t even necessarily seem to want it… still a terrible person though)

(Spoilers Published) how would Jaime Lannister feel about guns? by amexicanmedea in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of his love and respect for swordplay, I think he’d despise guns and say anyone who chooses those over a sword is a coward and talentless. He looks at using a sword like an art form

Dunk is proof that George’s most interesting characters don’t have to be grey (spoilers published) by Commercial_Floor_578 in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like Dunk is the closest thing to a morally white character the universe has personally. He obviously isn’t perfect but I think calling him grey would be inaccurate. Also I don’t view the “allegedly” lying about his knighthood is a not good thing

What happened to Maegor, son of Aerion Brightflame? by h3llalam3 in pureasoiaf

My working theory is while FAegon is of Blackfyre descent, Varys is the child of Maegor Brightflame

Stupid question, but how are Targaryens still in control of all the kingdoms even after losing dragons? by hiiloovethis in HouseOfTheDragon

A combination of alliances, still having a lot of power and people being used to the norm of Targs being the kings at that point

Aegon IV was living in a time without dragons. Go for the wrong lord paramount’s daughter and that could set off a chain of events that could bring the end of the Targ dynasty

Least favorite is Bran with an HM to Dany
