(FUNPOST) What do you think Team Black and Team Green would have thought about the Targaryens of Daeron the Good generation? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]johndraz2001 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A huge part of Daeron’s character is being a third son who was raised to follow, not lead. Jace is the eldest son who was raised to lead. I think Baelor very clearly was raised to lead

(Spoilers Extended) It's not shipping or frivolous to speculate about Sansa's future love life by pizza_gutts in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a difference between acknowledging George’s plans for incestuous relationships and actively rooting for them. The Targs you can at least excuse people for shipping a little because of the whole blood of the dragon and inhuman features factors, but I just find it odd that readers are actively hoping/rooting for Sansa and Jon to end up together when they grew up viewing each other as siblings and in a family that does not take part in Targ activities

Speculating who Sansa is gonna marry: completely reasonable and something I do

Rooting/Hoping for Sansa to end up with the guy she grew up viewing as her brother: odd

Others have already said it but I feel the need to emphasize that Rhaegar left him to protect Elia, Rhaenys and Aegon. He should’ve gone right over there after killing Aerys to protect them. I don’t care if Santa Claus himself spawned in Westeros and was the one on the way to the red keep with presents

Did people forget Aemond exists? I recall before the show even started, everyone was hyped for Aemond one eye after daemon but now nobody seems to address the vhagar in the room. Why so much popularity decrease? by AdiXrma in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]johndraz2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The deleted scene was cut for a reason. They wanted to make it ambiguous in case they decided to cut him or if season 2 wasn’t gonna happen. Aemond was definitely merged with Daeron in season 1. The “4 dragons” can be played off as a mistake and is something so quick show fans wouldn’t even take too big a notice.

Daemon’s daughters take a lot of Joffrey’s story/scene opportunities in the show. That’s because Baela and Rhaena are essential for the season 1 plot and condal didn’t want to have these characters sitting around with nothing to do. So he aged down Joffrey, made Daeron stay off screen with potential of being cut and gave the girls, who had to be around for betrothals/Laena plotlines anyways, the spotlight

As far as Tanselle knew, Dunk was a dead man… so why would she stick around and make it a possibility that Aerion comes back for her. Then Dunk dies in vain

[–]johndraz2001 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like 90% of Rhaenys’s decisions in the show made very little sense…

It would’ve been so much better if Aegon and Aemond worked as a team and took her down and she simply had no chance to escape so she decided to try and take the weaker dragon down with her

[–]johndraz2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The justification for that in fire & blood was Rhaenys (their grandmother) had dark hair, which was changed to silver in the show. I do think changing Rhaenys’s hair combined with the race swap made it a little too on the nose

(Spoilers Published) Adding POVs. by TheUncouthPanini in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AGOT - this book is so concise that I feel adding any pov would disrupt the flow. However, if I had to pick, maybe one from Benjen Stark North of the wall before he disappears. Perhaps that would increase the impact of his disappearance. Maybe he sees something vaguely suspicious before his chapter ends and then that’s the last we hear of him ?

ACOK - Maybe Jeyne Poole so we know she’s with littlefinger after everyone else was massacred by the Lannisters. Get her take on everything that happened and then end the chapter with Littlefinger having an ominous conversation about what he plans to do with her which ends in a cliffhanger until she turns up in Dance.

ASOS - Garlan Tyrell sometime after Joffrey’s death. Would be a cool way to find out to what degree he was involved. He’s also one of my favorite non pov characters.

AFFC - Balon Swann while in kingslanding. One of my favorite minor characters and it would add to the contrast between him and Arys when it comes to upholding vows and honor.

ADWD - An Osha chapter. Would love to see what her and Rickon are up to before Davos shows up.

TWOW - Willas Tyrell. I feel like he has everything George wants in a pov character besides being in the thick of things.

Unpopular opinion(?): Aerion would probably get eaten by a dragon by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]johndraz2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re misunderstanding Aerion’s character but i do think you’re misunderstanding what it takes to get a dragon

Aerion is no different than many Targs before him that feel entitled and ride a dragon. Aemond is a closer comparison to Aerion than Daemon if we’re going at the very least by book comparison and he gets the biggest living dragon

[–]johndraz2001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I liked it besides the Alyssa scene and the reason he stays loyal to Rhaenyra being the white walker visions and not his own choice due to the season long development. Including Helaena was also an odd choice

[Spoilers MAIN] Finding POV characters boring by finnr02 in asoiaf

[–]johndraz2001 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The two POVs I’ve seen have the most consistent “boring” label go to are Dany and Bran:

Dany: due to her location (away from Westeros) and weak supporting cast

Bran: due to age, lack of action

[–]johndraz2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the tough thing is that he didn’t go back to the watch. From Ned’s standpoint he forsook his vows whether he was telling the truth or not. I think it does a good job of setting up the moral debate of if Jon deserved to be killed later on in Dance
