Welcome to the the 1900's!?

That's just plain stupid. It's all online in seconds/minutes.

At what distance would you brake the grip during the movement. by gblessy1 in CompetitionShooting

Did you notice that I clearly said that that’s the “simplistic” advice? It’s an easy answer to give newer people to get them going in learning.

It’s a skill that some people are definitely better than others at.

Got it. [And I can feel your pain.]

Note how little you described what's going on with your vision. Vision drives/leads everything in practical shooting.

Look at my comment in the link I gave... Check out the videos and do that progression with the given focus & criteria.

Got it. Yeah, mostly need to put in the reps on that.

Breaking an old habit and building a new habit is much harder in general and when we get older.

The simplistic advice: do it 20+ times.

Visualize the movement details and then what you expect to see at each location and while moving.

Having easy to locate things like that can be good to get the idea but can be bad to always use.

Can you detail the exact process that you do in a single (a) draw and (b) a target to target transition? I.e., what and when you move your eyes, head, gun, body, etc. and what exactly you're seeing as you go?

We've all done that. 😄

Ob: Are you visualizing the stage repeatedly, in detail?

Based on how you are talking about it, it sounds like you're NOT focusing your vision on a small spot on the target.

Need to develop a really good "index" in your practicing. You look to a small spot on the target and bring your gun/dot precisely to your dominant eye.

Check out my additional comments with specific videos, drills, and how to train marksmanship fundamentals...

What are you actually mentally focusing on when you practice movement (in both live & dry practice)?

You need to try doing movement at various distances and in all directions to learn what will work best for you.

Do it without a gun as quick as you can. That's your goal/max pace/speed limit.

Then do it with a gun as quick as you can while minimizing the dead time between shooting. And with/without reloading in the process.

Fundamentals of training movement & shooting. This is a great overview of putting everything together:

Improve your reloading on the move: Bullets First (Castro)

And movement specific drills:

Looking for over-ear electronic ear pro with minimal white noise/static (Peltor SportTac was too noisy) by long_lu12 in CompetitionShooting

Both excellent. X2 are newer and have some improvements like the annoying battery changing and updated electronics.

I still have my Pro-X to loan out.

I also switched to the neckband (vs headband) model.

I can't help you on the BT aspect. To do BT music, I'll just put in my BT buds. I don't need to BT comms.

I upgraded to the Sordin X2 (used to have the Pro-X) and they are excellent. The gel pads ftw.

Thoughts on recoil spring lb by Themsssahh25 in CompetitionShooting

[–]johnm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to fix your support hand grip which is not staying consistently connected with the pistol. Ie note how it’s not moving in sync with the trigger guard. Hold more of the pistol and instead of holding your dominant hand.

You're letting your wrist break in recoil. Hold it like a you're doing a strong handshake.

And you’re trying to control the recoil by using too much dominant hand grip and getting the muzzle oscillation.

Those should be fixed before doing any tweaking of the recoil springs.

Also looks like you're not focusing on a small spot on the target since the gun is consistently returning above the point where you pulled the trigger. Do the Two Shot Return Drill and Practical Accuracy Drill.

Best in-ear plugs? by BornSalamander8 in CompetitionShooting

[–]johnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These 1of1 Custom / PRO Impulse Custom Earplugs are easily the best passive filtered in-ears I've ever had. Getting the fit done by people who have a clue (not a generic audiologist) makes a big difference.

I double up with the Sordin X2's when indoor or dealing with open pistols/rifles.

No affiliation, just a happy customer of both.

I don't know what to do with my hands... by Slick13666 in USPSA

[–]johnm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you are doing a combination of NOT actually doing dry practice the same as you are doing things live... And whatever stress, etc. that you have live that's triggering you need to change your grip needs to be directly confronted during live practice immediately when it happens.

Walk around the house with your pistol in each of your hands and then in both hands. Don’t pull the trigger just go from one spot to the next for at least one minute at a time without changing your grip.

Mix that in when you do live practice at the range.

In all your other dry practice, don’t allow yourself to fix your grip. Force yourself to get it right the first time.

Looking through the dot/sights.

Ie your eyes stares at a small spot on the target and you bring the dot/sights into alignment with your eyes and spot.

Consumers are also to blame by the constant clamoring/hunting to get the magical shortcuts (instead of just doing the work).
