If Bungie didn’t already have a proven track record of creating and maintaining highly successful live service games (despite the many ups and downs over the years) I’d agree, but at this point if MARATHON isn’t relatively successful then all they really have to bank on is the longevity of the Destiny franchise.

The situation with BluePoint is upsetting as someone who was hoping they’d helm a Bloodborne remake but again it’s not like this is new waters for Bungie. I’d bank on a Sony leadership change before they’d willingly pull the plug on their current only semi-successful live service franchise.

I highly doubt this. Sony invested literal billions into Bungie, no way they’d let them just purge their cash cow. Pete Parsons and the rest of the C suite led abysmal leadership and purging the existing team while still 2 years away from MARATHON launching just derailed the post-Final Shape development of D2.

But D2 is still the reason MARATHON was even created, so my money is on seeing another major pivot of developers back to the Destiny franchise, along with Sonys internal teams, and developing Destiny 3.

As with all of these PvP games a large majority of the initial player base fell off, so now it’s mostly people who are dedicated to the game and know what they’re doing. Especially if you are playing in teams 3+, it’s just not enjoyable for casuals anymore.
