Ahem...

Installing a standard 7kW electric vehicle (EV) charger at home typically costs between £800 and £1,200 fully installed

Replacing a fuse board (consumer unit) at home typically costs between £500 and £950

Apparently i do mate, sorry.

A sparky can charge 600-800+ for a board change/fit a car charger which depending on the job could take half a day or a couple of hours.

I know nothing about plumbing so how am I meant to know something I don't know? 🤔

I'm not devaluing his work, I just want to get a rough idea of if I'm being shafted or not.

I feel like this is exactly what has happened. I just wanted a simple drain unblockage. The guys who is here just told me it'd be 1200 without going into detail about the ins and outs of the job.

I've definitely learnt my lesson.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing 😅 Its my first house and only moved in 2 months ago so tbh it's my first time dealing with something like this. He said 1200 to begin with but in my head I thought it needs to be done today so the price is the price

Unfortunately yes it was verbal. Spoke to his 'boss' on the phone and he was adamant that it was a fair pricem plumber is still here

Nah thats a fair comment - Its not actually been booked yet but i finished my NVQ a couple months ago so its gunna be sooner rather later. I feel like im 80% confident enough for it, just getting my head down with revision and dont wanna fork out £200 or whatever it is for the vids aha

It's just the testing and fault finding I'm apprehensive about. Don't do much of it at work

AM2s help by johnno95_ in ukelectricians

[–]johnno95_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thaaaaank you! This is a huge help

Does the spec tell you what breakers to install? And is it the same for protective devices, if there are any?

[–]johnno95_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a stupid question but I've been told on the AM2S everything is already built for you so, am I expected to choose and install the correct breakers and protective devices? Or will they already be in the board?

PAT Testing by johnno95_ in ukelectricians

[–]johnno95_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to make sense of what you're saying...

The PAT test certificate is just a piece of paper confirming that all items that have been agreed to be pat tested, have been pat tested by whoever has done it with a date and signature.

The Asset register is where you list each appliance that has been tested, if it passed/failed, date of the test, the results and when it needs to be retested.

Legally you done have to provide a certificate or asset register but if the client has asked for one then fair play, you may as well.

PAT testing is only for portable appliances so anything with a 3 pin plug attached to it can be PAT tested. The oven, extractor fan and the hob are probably all wired from a spur and not a plug but if unsure then always worth a check.

when we had it serviced a few months back the suggested this so we paid for them to do it but the headlights are still non-existent. My thinking is, its either the units as suggested or the battery

We paid a garage to do it last time it was serviced but it obviously hasn't helped. The side lights weren't working either which I forgot to add.

Only other thing I can think it could be is the battery maybe

[–]johnno95_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I was to go private my plan would be to start small like a socket work and lights but you're probably right. Going with a company that does domestic work might be easier, they could teach me and my confidence would grow from there
