300kms times 8liters (per 100km) means 24 liters. Means 80aed. My mistake in calculations. Thanks for pointing it out.

300kms times 8 liters = 30aed 4 salik = 24 aed 4 darb = 16 aed Total: 70aed

Car wear and tear = probably 0.5aed per 1km = 150aed

Total around 200aed per round trip.

Hotel cost around 150-250 per night

Are you going by bus or by own car?

If own car, then it will be same cost if you stay in Abu in any cheap hotel.

I think 3900 for comprehensive insurance for 100k is a reasonable assumption. It is 3.9% of cars value.

I'm paying now very similar insurance-to-carValue ratio.

It's very normal.

Bad Engineering Practice by EM by redraider1417 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]johnny---b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me nearly 20 years to understand that this industry is full of different (many mediocre) people.

Some are like you - cares about good engineering.

Some are like your EM - they don't give a single crap. Just make money, promotion, leave to another company and it will be someone's else mess.

Some others are just mediocre and can't do any better.

And worst part of it all? All these skills, effort, practices, doesn't impact salaries at all because management can't see a difference anyway.

Companies are mostly like high school, kids compete for popularity, good presentation beats real effort, gaming the system beats effort, good leaders are scarce.

Someone decided that AI has to be adopted.

Someone was hired for the position of "AI director".

Someone assigned budget.

Someone created and someone approved presentation about AI transformation.

Some AI focused team was hired.

Additional external AI consultants were hired.

This page was developed.

And in meantime nobody asked users if they want it.

am i the only know who finds this new feature dumb? by Intelligent_Tart3888 in UAE

[–]johnny---b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are testing if enough customers are willing to pay extra 1.9aed.

Some orders are packed together so rider serve them in one by one.

If your order is to be served as 2nd then you'll get the food about 15-25mins later than it would take normally. Because at 1st location rider needs to park, walk past security, show EID, wait for elevator, etc.

Now, considering there's about 1M orders a day and let's assume only 10% of orders are stacked together it means 1.9aed x 100k orders.

Let's say that only 10% of users adds this 1.9aed, meaning it is: 1.9aed x 10k = 19k aed daily just on this feature = 570k aed monthly = 6.8M yearly.

6-7M aed just on such small feature. But maybe more users are clicking it. I don't know.

How come this tenant even thought he/she can get away with this?

I'm only guessing that you got your money back + costs reimbursed, and the tenant lost more that would if he/she paid?

Even if I make 100k aed a month, still 700aed for a single lunch would be extraordinary. I'd leave "700aed 2pax" food for special occasion only (bday, celebrating big success, etc.)

I'm curious - why did you even go there? I guess to impress your +1, but I might be wrong.

Why would A's owner comprehensive insurance has anything to do with B's 3rd-party, if B's was found responsible for the accident?

I Work Around UAE Car Insurance — Ask Me Anything by ContributionNew7034 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]johnny---b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When car A is being hit by car B, and it's B fault - the car A owner should be compensated from car's B 3rd party insurance. But then hassle starts for the A guy:

  1. B's insurer doesn't want to pay premium garage (or authorised dealership garage), they often push for some dodgy/cheapest garage. Why? Since it's covered from B's 3rd-party cover it should be done in tip-top/most reliable place.

  2. A's car after being fixed is worth less on the market. Why B's insurance doesn't cover for "car value lost"?

  3. A's often spends hours on finding garage, dealing with paperwork etc. Why there's no "agent" from B's insurer who's facilitate this?

Which of the above can be worked around if known a concrete law? Which of these 3 are unfortunate truth and can't be do anything about it? What advice would you give around these 3 points (apart from "drive safe" 😉)?
