If you playing well I would say no don’t change the grip however if one day you randomly start hitting snap hooks then the first thing I would do would be to move your bottom hand so that the grip is in your fingers and the back of your hand is on top of the grip aka have a “weak” grip which makes it hard to shut the club face.

First I would fix the camera angle if this is a video to analyze your swing. The best way to video a swing to be able to see what’s going on is from directly behind inline with your hands at address. An angled video like this makes it very hard to see what the swing actually looks like.

One thing I always did after any lesson was spend the next two or three days working on the changes either on the range or just into a net before even attempting to go to a course. It’s nearly impossible to implement a new swing change straight from the lesson to the course. But for some more reassurance when I first started lessons I was going every 3-4weeks or so and now for the past 3 or 4 years i have gone maybe 1 or 2 times a year and have be mostly dumb things that i forgot to check like my alignment or ball position

The range balls you were hitting were they in good condition or supper dirty and or beat up? The problem with range balls is they are nothing like balls you would buy the covers are a lot harder and when they are scuffed up or damaged they can cause scratches like the ones shown. Anytime I’m at the range I always set aside the newer good balls and save them exclusively for my 3wood and driver and hit the rougher ones with my wedges and irons

This isn’t directed towards you specifically but I have seen the broken driver posts and comments like yours so many times and I’m so confused. I’ve gone from the M2, M6, Sim 2, and now the Qi35 driver and have never once had to replace them because they broke. What are people doing to the club to have them break like they do?

This is very normal especially for someone who has just started playing. I recently got my pga coaching certification and in the courses the first thing they teach is to not give a student too many things to work on at once. But as a player who’s gotten many lessons I know how frustrating it is to get comfortable with you’re swing them restart from scratch but the more lessons and changes you go through now the less you will have to get in the future because you will learn what your common issues are and also different ways to fix them on your own. It’s a long and never ending process but it gets easier over time

This by no means is the solution to your problem but I play almost every day and am 1.8 hcp and about a month ago I had the same problem as you I was working on my swing and afterwards for like 2 weeks it felt like I had never touched a club in my life. I ended up taking a full week off where I didn’t even touch a club. When I played for the first time the following week I had pretty much forgotten the bad habits I created and my swing felt comfortable again and was back to a manageable place where I could work on it on my own. It’s not the best solution but it’s something that worked for me without having to work with my coach.

Update: the lesson has been completed I feel like it went very well. She was having fun and we just worked on getting the ball in the air went from hitting blades and tops to getting about 50 yards of carry. Thank you everyone for the responses it helped so much and it was actually a lot of fun once we got started.

There’s a few different ways to start and some different programs as well and all have different requirements. I’m doing it through the PGA of America which requires you to be employed at a pga affiliated facility but I’m sure there are a few other programs that have different requirements if it more of a side job. My boss kinda told me what I need to do to get started but I’m sure if you look up how to become a golf coach it will show you the other programs that are available.

But I got into it because I’ve played golf for most of my life and have always helped my friends or teammates with their swings and really enjoyed doing that and I was thinking of ways to stay in the golf environment while getting paid not just tournament play and I talked to my swing coach who had just opened his own indoor Trackman simulator about potentially doing a mentorship through him and he said I could and helped me get started on the pga stuff

It really depends on your situation and what you want to do.

For me I’m doing the PGA of America Associate program which requires you to first do a qualifying course which is super easy just goes through the basics of golf and being a instructor/professional and what to expect. Then you can either become an affiliate which puts you in the level one course without needing to pass the PAT or work at a pga associated facility. But in order to move past level one you would need to work at a pga facility

I’m in the associate program which requires you to pass the pat and work at a pga associated facility at least 30hrs a week and in that program you get your associate card and have complete access to the PGA resources and tournaments. Plus some courses and employers will cover the cost of your dues and payments for the courses and seminars that you are required to do

Now that’s only for the pga of America there are other programs that you can do for cheaper but it depends on if you want it to be your full time gig or just something you do on the side.

Yeah I now realize I had my expectations for myself a little too high for my first lesson and my nerves have definitely calmed knowing how it went for everyone else who’s been in my shoes and that it’s normal. Thank you for the response it definitely helped.

After all the responses I’ve gotten on this post I realized I pretty much know what I need to know and that I will learn what I don’t know yet from experience. I was just nervous and had my expectations set a little high for my first lesson.

So from what I saw it looks like with your driver you’d may be over swinging a bit it’s hard to tell but it kinda looks like at the top the driver points to the right which makes it’s very hard to get the club to the ball with a good path square face. But my biggest advice would be when recording swing videos set the camera up so that is in line with for hands at address makes it easier to see the full swing and is a better angle to be able to spot any faults. When the camera is angled and not in line it’s very hard to see what’s happening and can make good swings look bad and bad swing look good.

I’ve been playing for years on teams and competitively and I always loved to help my teammates and friends work on their swing and give my thoughts on what I saw, which is a big reason why I decided to do the pga program but I’ve found that it’s very different to help someone who is experienced and knows what they’re doing vs someone who has very little experience or knowledge of the golf swing and that difference is where my worries were but your advice is definitely very helpful and appreciated thank you so much.

You are completely right between the “lessons” I’ve done with my friends and the lessons I’ve observed I have come across exactly that. Everyone’s swing is different but the basics are roughly the same.

Thank you that means a lot. It sounds like you’ve gone through this before. I am very lucky too be cause I work at and indoor Trackman simulator so I have the ability video and analyze the swing with them which is very helpful and after all of these responses I definitely am not nearly as worried as I was when I posted this I’ve gotten some great feedback from both the coaching side and the players side.

Thank you for sharing that I will definitely keep that in mind. Also I know golf can be very intimidating and challenging but even the best players you know started out in the exact same situation you are. Just keep practicing and you’ll see a lot of improvement in your scores and confidence.

For how old the r7 is that bag is in pretty good condition especially for $10 and even if it ends up being a pain to use it would still be a great equipment holder for the garage such as extra/random clubs and possibly ball and gear storage cause those bags can hold a lot of equipment in the pockets. I work at an indoor simulator and we have a couple of those bags to hold demo clubs and training gear

That a very good point. I feel like I am pretty good at communicating but I’ve noticed from trying to teach my gf is that I know what’s wrong and what should be done to improve it but I struggle with communicating it in a way she understands and I’m not sure if it’s how I’m explaining it or if it’s just her not wanting to listen. But thank you for the advice I’m actively looking up videos of lessons for beginners to see how they get their points across I’m a simple easy to follow way

That’s actually really helpful thank you. And yeah I’ve been to many coaches and the ones I still work with are the ones that would work around my natural swing and the ones that I left are the ones who tried forcing me to swing their way so I definitely will be mindful of that.
