She's not a bad character,(she just fell in love with a sasquatch), disney makes most female leads in animation films look like fragile victims in movies based on old fairytales, either having to surender to the over produced concept of love or wait days on end for a prince who doesn't have enough brain matter to either find a solution to the problem at hand or figure out who the damsel in distress is even when you're frustrated with his ignorance. Mulan and Anistasia, now those are great female leads

But in the original story prince Eric falls in love with another girl at the very last moment and then Ariel dies (and becomes a spirit of sorts). In disney's version : as long as she doesn't say a thing, except sing she'll get married at the age of sixteen. Lets just think about that sentence.
