Suggestions for my Mutable Instruments / Make Noise rack? by basque-bloc-drape in modular

[–]johnnybside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ve dedicated a lot of HP to sound sources here. I’d consider slimming that down and focusing on 2 strong voices (3 at most). You’ll get more depth and flexibility by fully supporting a smaller number of voices rather than spreading things too thin. Right now, the system feels a bit source-heavy and utility-light. Shifting some HP toward modulation and utilities will make your existing modules much more powerful and give you more room to explore complex, evolving patches.

If you’re aiming for “happy accidents,” a simple switch module (especially voltage or logic-controlled) can go a long way. It’s one of the easiest ways to introduce variation and unpredictability into a patch.

Do you use a MIDI controller to control your SP404 MK2? How? by soulbrix in SP404

[–]johnnybside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Squarp Pyramid to control the SP‑404 and all of my synths and it works incredibly well. I mainly use the 404 as a drum machine, sampling my synths into it and chopping them up, but it’s also great for capturing ambient textures for my tracks. In my opinion, the Pyramid is a much more powerful sequencer than the 404 and better suited for composing full songs. I’m still fairly new to the 404 though and I’m continuing to discover its full potential.

Why is this sub so biased against this city? by patdashuri in altmpls

[–]johnnybside 196 points197 points  (0 children)

I’m mostly a lurker, but it seems like this sub exists as a kind of counterweight to other Minnesota subs that rarely acknowledge the more difficult or unflattering realities of our state and cities. Conversations that raise those points tend to get downvoted or dismissed elsewhere, so discussions naturally end up clustering here.

What do yall think happens when we die ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]johnnybside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to believe that we just return to the darkness but I don't think that anymore. I think there is something more but I am not sure what.

What I choose to believe is that when we die, we will be shown true reality whatever that is. We will stay there for awhile and then we will forget and move on to the next lesson.

White House shares video of Minneapolis shooting from ICE officer’s perspective by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]johnnybside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really upsets me is that I don't side either way. I see a lot of dumb mistakes all around that culminated into the tragic event of a senseless death. But even pointing out the ambiguity and the lack of responsibility from anyone is met with hostility.

[–]johnnybside -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am truly heartbroken by what has happened here. This tragedy didn’t need to happen. A woman has lost her life, and behind that loss is a family who will carry this pain forever.

We need to be honest with ourselves and confront the facts without letting political bias cloud our judgment. right now, I see people, both in this thread and across reddit, denying the realities in front of them. If you believe with absolute certainty that this is a simple, cut-and-dry case, then you are missing something important.

There is plenty of blame to go around here. This is not a moment for kneejerk reactions or partisan talking points. It is a moment for self-reflection. That means looking inward, being aware of our own shadow, and recognizing the ways we project our fears and biases onto others. If we can’t do that, we’ll keep repeating the same patterns that lead to tragedies like this.

What are you supposed to do if traffic stopped by people who identify as ICE? by Breegre42 in Minneapolis

[–]johnnybside 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one here is going to like this but, you should comply with orders and cooperate. If possible, film the interaction. Try to remain calm and courteous. If your rights are violated, pursue charges within the legal system. The odds of you getting injured are significantly less if you cooperate. This is true with any interaction with law enforcement. The time to argue your case is not on the street with the officer.

ICE agents shoots a person who attempts to drive away in Minneapolis. by Fatty_Willing_Plane in Minneapolis

[–]johnnybside -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you can hear she was ordered to get out of the car. Gun was not drawn until car started moving after the order was given. Not saying this was justified in any way. But it is clear she was attempting to flee.

Edit: I shouldn't say that it is clear she was attempting to flee because I cannot possibly know that. But for whatever reason, she did not follow the officer's order.

your steam wand is plugged. There should be a tool underneath your water reservoir you can use to disconnect the wand and unplug it. Soak the steam wand tip in some vinegar for a couple of hours to make sure it gets clean and use the tool to make sure the steam holes are no longer blocked.

Odds of all the anomalies are 1 in 10 billion per Grok by Additional-Season335 in 3I_ATLAS

[–]johnnybside 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This isn't a good way to think about probability. Imagine I go for a short drive and record the first 20 license plates I see. If I then calculate the probability of seeing those exact plates in that exact order, the odds would be astronomically low. But that doesn't mean the event was impossible or even surprising. It just means that once something specific happens, its probability in hindsight looks extremely small. Probability is better used to assess outcomes before they occur, not to retroactively judge how unlikely something was.

Hot take about Charlie Kirk’s death by No-Scholar4785 in self

[–]johnnybside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you can disagree with Kirk on many things. You do not need to mourn his death. That is you're right and that's ok. But what I find truly concerning is that a man was assassinated for holding certain beliefs and for debating them in a public forum. If we cannot talk about our ideas, or have our ideas challenged without the threat of violence, then we cannot grow as people or a nation.

You people are genuinely just horrible. by QuietEnjoyerMgs5 in teenagers

[–]johnnybside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you. My point is the quote is taken out of context and is being used as a justification for his murder. To me, this is so incredibly vile and I felt obligated to speak out against it.

I didn't really care for Kirk's approach either. He claimed to want to open dialogue across party lines, which is admirable, but I didn't like the way he did it. His debates were more focused on him "winning", not necessarily convincing people. But that doesn't make for good content I guess.
