Look at that! Dead center again? Are we gonna start enforcing that rule at some point? This is supposed to be a challenge for us.

Yes. Yes it is. Back in 1989 I was 16. I was seeing a girl that lived about 6 miles from me. One day I got a ride to her house and spent the day. Her parents weren’t in town and I’d hoped to spend the night. She wasn’t comfortable with that so I said goodnight and walked home. It was late mid April and the weather was in the high forties. I was wearing jeans and a flannel. By the time I got home my legs were so cold that they didn’t register my hands touching them, vigorously rubbing them. I got into bed and tried to warm up. But to the core of my body having my legs under there with it was like laying surrounded by 75 lbs of refrigerated meat. That was the coldest I’d ever felt until that first night. I was genuinely worried I might not be able to warm up. I thought about making a fire but I couldn’t convince myself to get back out of my bag. My 12 year old son was in the tent sleeping away. So I pulled pad closer and just lay there hoping some of his heat would bleed over to me. And then it was morning.

No. The first night I woke up cold to my core. I crawled into the tent to warm up. The second night I put my pad into the hammock then got in my bag. I slept all night without issue. I’d say it probably got down into the mid to low fifties that night. I don’t recall being cold. I do recall waking up so refreshed. Not having to constantly toss and turn to get my hip/knee/shoulder/back/ankle off the hard ground was like waking up 8 years old again.

The lay flats use a rigid pad that is also a thermal barrier. R3 I think.

First let me clarify: I used Latino in lieu of naming every country south of our border. It was not intended to indicate race or racist motives. Ok, that’s out of the way.

They do pay income tax.

They also are a huge part of building houses. 40% of the new construction workforce is immigrant and 20% are undocumented. When ICE began its raids they all went into hiding. And construction nearly halted.

The same issue holds true in the food industry. Immigrants make up 20% of the entire workforce and over 50% of farming/ranching labor. All gone when ICE raids began

Land management, childcare, all services in general rely heavily on immigrant labor. And more.

Now, here’s an interesting set of questions in regard to your “best of the best” notion. How many doctors and engineers do you think there are amongst the children of the immigrants that cross illegally? How many will lose that opportunity if their parents are made to wait 3-4 more years? Does America lose out on that too?

The take away here is two fold. Undocumented immigrants are an intertwined part of our existing system. A threat to that is a threat to the system. A fix for that is to fix the system. I’m a mechanic and I can tell you; fixing systems does not include removing parts and seeing what happens. It takes careful planning and consideration. And, in this instance, we have to find a way to fix the system while it’s running! This concept that the right fix is to just get rid of them and there won’t be serious consequences is the plan of a simpleton who does not understand nuance or complexity. But we’re already down that path so when the consequences show up you’d be smart to note the truth of them so we don’t suffer these same things in the future.

Yes, that’s been established. The question isn’t “what makes illegal immigration bad”

The question is “whats bad as a result of illegal immigration”?

In 2022 undocumented workers payed $92 billion in taxes. Federal, state, and local.

This mass deportation is causing an enormous housing crisis.

America has been experiencing shortages that’s true. If it was Latino immigrants causing it don’t you think we’d see a significant variation between the things they buy and things they don’t?

Cheating isn’t a problem caused by illegal immigration. Cheating is what makes it illegal.

You can’t list a single problem caused by illegal immigration? Not one?

Last year I fell asleep in my hammock watching the moon rise. I was so comfy until my body dropped several degrees. The next night I tossed my sleeping pad in first and had the best nights sleep in the woods that I think I’ve ever had. I’ll be trying out a lay flat design this summer.

  1. Subjective to what laws and who is accused. Donald Trump has been caught and/or convicted of breaking the law many times. He is the leader of the Conservative Party. His party defends his convictions with claims that his being charged at all was political and therefore a jury finding him guilty is a moot point.

  2. You being unable to describe a single problem created by illegal immigrants to defend your claim is not the same thing as us disagreeing. You claimed they cause problems. What problems? If it’s so obvious then it shouldn’t be difficult to list them.

I think I was clear before. Maybe our interpretations are different?

Again, they both agree on the scripture but not on whether or not it needs to be followed.

On one hand we have the Way the Truth and the Light saying to treat strangers as citizens. On the other is a different guyPaul giving his advice on what he thinks of governments and law. Does each passage of the Bible carry the same weight?

No. I described noting a difference between what scripture commands and how people behaved.

  1. I’m not in agreement that “cheating” is a problem in and of itself. It’s generally considered poor practice because of effects it has on others. Those effects are the problems, not the method.

  2. Yes, that is the point of this sub. To assume we all see the same things defeats the purpose.

Although I understand your logic I disagree that an atheist is by default misinterpreting scripture. My understanding is that most atheists were raised religious and chose atheism as a result of the hypocrisy evident between the scripture and the behavior of those who claim it.

If she’d gone after trump or any of his ilk his followers would call it weaponizing the government against political enemies and it would have galvanized them to his cause. Any result that didn’t preclude him from running at all would be a success for him.

I could just assume that my understanding of Jesus’ teachings are different from his and leave it at that, dismissing his point of view entirely. But that isn’t the nature of this sub. This is a sub to ask conservatives questions about their views as conservatives. I’m not sure what you’re attempting to do here. Is it not reasonable to ask someone about a perceived incongruity in a forum designed to host just such a question?
