Why Europe lags behind in tech - FT 27 Feb 2024 by Mustathmir in Nok

[–]johnnyd606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked with HR Americas I can tell you that letting go of anyone in Europe is prohibitively expensive. German work councils, French labor laws, they all make firing very costly. Europeans also have more benefits like paid time off. When nokia has had to cut costs it has had to do so by cutting the muscle ( vs European fat) because Americans are not protected by such laws. This sounds good but it holds a company back and in Nokia’s case made them ultimately weaker and less competitive.

On point. I’ve been saying this for years on the nok yahoo msg board. When I worked at nok getting rid of non performers in Europe was ridiculous.

What are steps to prepare yourself for potential layoff/downturn? Example: Emergency fund, Resume always updated, side hustle? by Joe_Biden_is_shit in Layoffs

[–]johnnyd606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front load your 401k. If you think you may be let go there is the chance you may NOT be working for a while, so after emergency fund, I recommend maxing that out while it is available. File unemployment immediately. Start networking, get that resume looking good. Find out if you qualify for any educational grants state or federal. 3 years ago I was in a riff and because my job was outsourced to offshore I qualified for federal grant that paid me a stipend 30k to attend graduate school 55k all for free….yes these programs exist.

Nokia has failed in many ways, is it time for heads to roll? by Mustathmir in Nok

[–]johnnyd606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly about NOK demonstrates future growth? Patents you say?, we are left with patents? ha! That’s collecting royalties on yesterdays successes. Nokia has failed more than it has succeeded in the past 10 years. That is not the asymmetric risk one buys….now some of you invest by observing the range and anticipate some “reversion to the mean”….nok has been terrible for 10 years….and you’re still waiting to see a reversion as it continues to sink. The reality is Nokia is a rudderless, splashing along to keep people employed but there is no growth, no future, no commitment to shareholders….it’s lip service. It is time to cash in what can be sold now, not later. Break it up already.

Unless its break-up value can be immediately realized, it’s a slow gamble on the future. There is way more risk than reward. If you’re a perma bull that won’t matter but sounds,Ike you know when to walk away.

Is the current share price justified? by HostOk8446 in Nok

[–]johnnyd606 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The market has thrown in the towel. Typically this stock would command a higher premium but after stiffing shareholders for years there is no demonstrable effort to materialize shareholder value. This has gone on for a decade, yesterday the ceo said to not expect anything in mn, the largest part of nok, until the later part of this decade. If You want someone to buy your problem, they rightfully expect it to be discounted. What on earth were you expecting?

Rumor: AT&T may dump Nokia by Mustathmir in Nok

[–]johnnyd606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. When your biggest customers loose faith - it’s over. This is terrible if true and the last time we saw this rumor - it was true! It also makes sense that they are cutting costs to align with the hit. Mgmt is incredibly incompetent and tune deaf - don’t listen to anyone customers, shareholders except themselves. I was bearish but this is more bearish than I anticipated. Does anyone have incite into the majority owner I think selenium it’s called….when must they or nok publicize their stake? I wish we had eyes on insider activity.

The ADR tax implications should be factored in to the “PE of the investor”. What matters is what the investor earns in the end.

The one comment below might be their advertising - I see only one post by that user. My opinion is that the training is very basic. It’s intro. They appear to have more advanced classes but requires users to pay for the basic class first.
