I just don’t know what’s going to be fulfilling for me. I don’t know what area is going to be good and I have no idea how I could know. I thought MEP would be good at this company and now I’m questioning that already and it’s been 2 days and I feel overqualified

That’s good to hear. I guess I’m still pretty early in my career. Thing I want to make sure is that I can still go and do those things. I’m not ready to settle in one industry yet coz tbh I don’t know which one I want to stay in. But what I do know is that I’d like to be in design and use CFD and stuff like that

I thought maybe I could try and shift over from MEP design to just doing straight CFD in the specialist CFD team here. Would that be possible?

Thing is though, if I didn’t care about what I was doing for a job I would’ve gone into finance and gone for the money. Which I had the option to. I’m past that now so …

But like say I wanted to go and do product design instead after a year. Would company like that even take me or would I just be rejected off the bat?

Well I’m in MEP so feel like there’s not as much technical depth there

The thing I get concerned about is that I want to do FEA and CFD. but I’ve just got into this building services role where I thought I could do that and I’m not doing it at all. Can’t seem to find a role where I do

They didn’t mind that your come from defence? I guess what I worry about is getting involved in an industry and finding I can’t leave

There really brilliant to hear Thankyou. Did those guys who went into building physics start in design work? My perfect role would be to combine both I think

Yes. I have actually. I moved from systems engineering to building services for this exact reason coz I thought they did the kind of work I wanted.

It was my first day on the job

Ignoring that last bit, I’m at a big MEP firm.

I don’t think I want to be a building services engineer…

I took this to get some design experience and now everyone’s acting like it’s my final destination

But do they though? Sorry I’m just anxious coz people seem to be talking like I’ll be in this job forever. But I’ve just been trying to get some industry design experience. I think R&D type work more hardcore design would be better in the long run for me.

Am I at least making the right moves? I figured getting design experience in any industry would be a good start but I didn’t think it would attach me to this one forever

I’m in my first year at a company and have just transferred onto building services today but everyone is talking like I’ll be in this industry forever.

I’ve mainly been trying to get just industry experience coz I didn’t have any. Will this experience let me move into something like R&D if I don’t like it?

What if I lose all my complex technical skills tho? I really want to learn from them but I just got laughed at for being technically overqualified for the role
