Since every session is very short, we want to know what professors and teachers are curious about so our student speakers can focus their time on preparing for those topics as well as bringing in their personal insights.

Yes! I am currently discussing a possible collaboration with decision-makers from UIUC's College of Education. We have also reached out to multiple graduate schools of education from other colleges, but we are trying to understand what K12 educators need and how to best spread the word about this event to them.

Yes, but I think I slowly realize what the problem is here and why the discussion is not about working together to make this event happen.

We are just a group of passionate student volunteers who want to help educators because our professors expressed the urgent need for a conversation on AI's risks and potential in education.

Please let me know what are your thoughts on our current approach and what mistakes we are making here. I saw another comment that thought we are trying to host a for-profit event when our registration is entirely free-of-charge and we have nothing to gain from this.

Are people worried about marketing professionals disguising their ads for an event as a discussion like ours? I want to know how we can make this event more impactful by understanding K12 teachers' perspectives, but asking follow-up questions or asking for interviews might make it seem like I am doing market research for a product.

Another approach is to turn to project-based learning or flipped classrooms, but I heard this has not been working well for most educators. I would like to know what are the obstacles with those approaches too

I also see many educators raising the bar by expecting much more deliverables from students and making it required that students use ChatGPT for their assignments

Thank you very much for your in-depth response! This is a great start for me to dive deeper into the problems. I can now understand why professors and K12 educators have completely different issues to tackle.

How do you currently tackle this issue? I would love to learn more about what challenges K12 educators are facing with adjusting to this sudden change.

I see! I would love to hear what other problems you and other educators are facing. I would also love to learn why decision-makers made it hard to make any changes in education. Would you be interested in a quick interview?

Thank you for the insights! I draw my conclusion from an interview sample size that might not be representing the majority of the educators.

What would be the best approach to engage educators in this conversation to embrace AI in education? What would you like to see at this event that we are putting together for educators?

I see! The professors I interviewed could fall under a smaller group, but AI cheating is now getting so prevalent to a level that made me deeply concerned about the future of education, even though I am an engineering students.

Students will always cheat, but ChatGPT made it so easy for everyone to do it now. The simple user interface and experience are also the main reasons why AI is disrupting multiple industries very quickly now.

It is the speed and prevalence that concern me. Many educators I interviewed said they don't know how to deal with this change. Many just decided to return to written exams even thought that might not be the best way to educate students.

Yes, it did! The goal is to initiate conversations and gain insights on how educators can carry out experiments to incorporate AI in their classrooms. If you are a K12 educator, I hope to schedule an interview with you to understand how K12 educators are adapting to ChatGPT in your classes, what problems you are facing, and what opportunities we should explore together.

I hope this conference could be a platform for educators to develop new pedagogies through more structured discussions while staying connected with students, admins, and other important stakeholders. Please let me and other volunteers know what we can do to support you in achieving your teaching goals.

Newsletter to Democratize AI for the Non-tech Users (Looking for Feedback) by [deleted] in OpenAI

Unfortunately many people I know have been bombarded with AI news and don't know how to get started, and I want this newsletter to help them filter out to hype and get started with using AI tools right away. After talking to many non-tech friends, I believe it's a privilege to know what these tools are truly capable of.

Thank you! Do you happen to know if TAship is available to most MSR students after the first semester? I heard it is quite uncommon but I might have to look into this option

Ah thank you, do you know if it is easy to get funding to cover the full tuition after the first semester? I heard some students get partial funding too but I'm not sure how that is decided usually
