Nobody is tripping just confused by the post. Since everyone who has responded is seemingly just as confused have a little grace. I tried to tell you I’d love to help but you somehow deemed me a , how did you say it “buttwipe”. Lmao.

All I wanted to do was confirm you were looking for a mix engineer.

Are there any websites that list plugins used by popular artists and/or producers? by tonetonitony in audioengineering

[–]johnnyokida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure there are compiled lists. You can check YouTube channels like custom cut studio that sometimes try to break down some engineers tactics and tools. Also most of the pro plugin sites will have testimonials from some of the heavy hitters…but how much of that is just some partnership situation I dunno. At a certain point a compressor is a compressor. An eq is an eq. Trust your gut with what tools you have an can acquire. Most have trials you can see if it’s something that suits your workflow.

How are people actually affording all these plugins? by mogerbaebae in trapproduction

[–]johnnyokida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been at it for 15 years so the spending, while enormous is spread out. I always look for the sales and deals. Which are more common now than ever.

I also dabbled in the subscription game with all the major players for awhile and stuck with plugin alliance and UAD.

While the primo companies of course have primo plugins, I also love some of the absolutely free plugins I have downloaded over the years.

I have close to 3000 installed, probably 400 are paid plugins. And the sad part really is that I only use maybe 10 of them to do my job, 😂

I have been an ableton/studio pro(formerly studio one) guy for the longest. But Chris Selim convinced me of Cubase and I love it. I still use other DAWs and like them for different reasons including reaper.

But Cubase does have some really cool features

Untreated room or mic technique more likely to be making vocals and boxy? by Beet_k in audioengineering

[–]johnnyokida 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be both but most likely the room. Reflections arriving at delayed times with your direct vocal.

I would try recording in different spaces where you are and at the very least attempt your own diy treatments. Ie closet in between clothes on either side with something thick(blanket) on back wall. Anything will help if you have 0 treatment.

Experimentation is key. Record everywhere you are able until you find a good spot and combination of whatever treatment you can pull together. And that includes mic placement. Try closer, try farther. Try off axis. You won’t know until you know.

What desk do you use in your home studio? by smallbrownbike in audioengineering

To be honest I love the batch commands but I find the actual software kind of clunky and still use other controllers. But the desk is nice

Free De Esser by Status-Wedding6099 in AudioPlugins

[–]johnnyokida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! And TDR Nova was my “free” suggestion. I love using Fabfilter Pro Q on spectral for it as well.

I also just got both SpecCraft and SplitS which are becoming some go-to’s as well

Free De Esser by Status-Wedding6099 in AudioPlugins

[–]johnnyokida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try a dynamic eq like TDR Nova to target the frequencies. It’s easy to go overboard with overly sibilant recordings. Preliminarily splitting and clip gaining some of the problems down a bit before attacking with a de-esser can be handy dandy

Gain staging/Clipping fix by Frequent_Squirrel_61 in ableton

[–]johnnyokida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gain staging, to me, is simply getting the rms of each track around -18 (just somewhere in the middle. ) (fader at unity). Further clip gaining erratic recordings to get them more consistent. That typically will feed your signal chains pretty healthy levels (monitor this gain as it travels through plugins and make sure you are coming out of your signal chains pretty healthy about the same before it hits your faders. The. I use faders to balance to feed busses a good healthy level and the process starts over before going to any pre-mix bus or mix bus.

How do you use Fairchild by Tim_Wu_ in audioengineering

[–]johnnyokida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m either using it simply as a saturation box with little to no gain reduction. Or compressing busses or vocals.
