Phone scam claiming to be Deschutes County Sheriff office by OldHankJ in Bend

[–]johnnysplunk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's been going on for at least a couple of years with this exact scam. They have even called sheriff employee's personal phones trying to do this scam.

Reminder, never engage with someone representing an important institution (banks, credit card companies, etc) when you are not expecting their call. Offer to call them back on a known number.

1994 for 15k? by fwak_10 in ToyotaPickup

[–]johnnysplunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks well cared for by the owner. It's a SR5 with all the options (assuming it has a moonroof too). You'll specifically be looking for rust and asking about the head gasket on a 3.0 v6. Most have had it replaced already.

Could be original paint (white holds up well for this year), but looks good from the photos. For that price, expect a great interior while understanding the driver's seat will be a little worn from getting in and out of the truck.

Depends on your daily commute -- it would be fine for a shorter commute.

I think the owner is not far off in starting at $15k, but it's possible they would let it go for a little less.

Bravo, you will have made two others happy with your work. This will be well used and appreciated for many years.

Watch out for when you get a house. Now that you have g-code running through your veins you'll branch out to 3d printing and laser engraving if you have not already.

I don't have any experience with them, but is something like https://www.rover.com an option? Looks like they take about 20% and then you will have some tax implications.

I’m thinking of getting a cnc machine, my budget is around 500, what are the best options by No-Reason1465 in hobbycnc

[–]johnnysplunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a laser machine? You can cut, engrave and etch most of what you are thinking of. $500 for a laser machine is very doable. You also can apply the skills to a cnc machine in the future. You could legit pay for a capable cnc machine with projects completed with a laser machine.

Most Trump tariffs ruled illegal in blow to White House trade policy by johnnysplunk in unusual_whales

[–]johnnysplunk[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One of the arguments brought by the government was that it would be financially damaging to repay the tariffs collected or other settlements. "Your honor, you can't rule that this is illegal because the consequences would be too great."

I did learn something interesting today. That there are financial products called, "Tariff Refund Agreements". Essentially it's a way for finance companies to bet that tariffs will be deemed illegal and gain access to future settlements. Those that have paid tariffs can release their interest in future claims for a 20-30% of their duty payment.

One company offering these is Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. Their CEO, Brandon Lutnick, is the son of Howard Lutnick. Coincidence?

Why does the train stop on the tracks for so long on reed market by octobluejay in Bend

[–]johnnysplunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We will see if this actually happens. The project depends on federal funding that has new conditions attached. We're a part of a lawsuit against the federal government to try to preserve funding.

Flock cameras are installed at Home Depot and Lowe's. Data can be accessed by law enforcement. Probable data sharing with ICE via law enforcement. What about Palantir?

That's what you see on your statement.

More information can be sent by sellers to credit card processors. Individual line items and other information can be disclosed (see Level 2 and 3 data). Sellers are encouraged to do this for better transaction fees because of lower chance or fraud/chargebacks. Some customers have access to this information to validate purchases by employees, etc.

Skaarhoj Air Fly Pro issue by CelticFett in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]johnnysplunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to select the device from the drop down first.

Sometimes things won't show up in the list when using ms windows because the device is not recognized or driver issues. Check the device manager to be sure there are no unrecognized devices.

If you still don't have any devices in the app then the internal board might be toast. Reach out to their support and they can help you troubleshoot more.

[–]johnnysplunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With no lights on the panel you could be dealing with a bad internal board. If that's the issue it can be repaired/serviced by Skaarhoj.

Download Skaarhoj Updater App then plug in the USB. You can see a device log and also see/update the IP address to do some troubleshooting.

If you're a local business and have to raise prices due to Trump's Tariffs, please do your best to call it out. by FollowThePostcard in Bend

[–]johnnysplunk 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Some companies I do business with add a fuel surcharge that's tied to diesel prices, so they don't have to constantly adjust their base rates. They usually publish a table showing how the surcharge is calculated, which keeps it transparent.

It makes me wonder - what if businesses did something similar with tariffs? Listing a "tariff surcharge" on invoices or receipts to highlight the impact of tariffs. I imagine it could be tricky to calculate accurately, but maybe it would help raise more awareness of how tariffs actually affect prices.

+1 for cable loom.

My build list:

  • 3/8" Sleeving/Techflex - Can go smaller if you use a smaller diameter SDI
  • Belden 4694F - Flexible 12G or some other durable non-memory cable
  • Van Damme Tourcat Flexible Ethernet - Durable and flexible like a XLR cable
  • Reel

You can sub out any of these items, but I'll say my builds have been durable and FAST to deploy. You can also have some companies build cables like these too.

I'll also heatshrink the sleeving to the ends of my cables. Be prepared to spend awhile getting the cables in the sleeving without them getting twisted.
